Default V8 Choke Warm Up Tube - Necessary?

I'm going through my new 1977 Cobra II (302) before putting it on the road and noticed the CHOKE WARM UP TUBE in the box of spare parts. Needless to say it isn't connected and upon closer inspection I see that it was once welded to the exhaust manifold. This makes reinstallation near impossible.

Do I need it? Will this just make my car take longer to warm up? Should I be concerned with this hole in the maifold? Actually I'm very concerned about this hole in my manifold. And am concerned about not having this tube in place. The video form Pony Carbs (who I had rebuild the carb) stresses the importance of having it in place.

So how would I reinstall it? A tube of smaller diameter inside as a sleeve jumper? Hmmm.

Thanks in advance. Please see pictures.

Cheers
Elwood

It'd be advised to get it back in there. It'll have some warm up problems in the winter and you can put it back in the way you were thinking.
