The correct carb for my 77 Cobra 302 is an Autolite/Motorcraft 2150. If your Haynes manual won't tell you and no one answers here for 76 (most likely it's the same as the 77) you should bug the cats at Pony Carbs in NM. They're great.

Say, do you have any photos (or would be willing to take some) of how your vacuum lines are hooked up? Let me know.

I just bought a new 2bbl for my 77 302, @ Cheyenne Auto Parts in Vegas. Auto Zone and Checker also can order the stock 2bbl. Was only $165.00 with exchange. Here are some shots of my lines if they help.

Right on man! Those photos help.

Can you tell me where your vacuum source comes from for EGR Vacuum Control Valve?

Can you tell me what that line is you have snaking along the driver's side valve cover? I see it gets manifold vacuum. Does it go to the Ported Vacuum Switch (PVS)?

Do you have a PVS? Where does it mount?

Here's the thing. Without a decent vacuum schematic I'm playing Columbo and have deduced how, in theory, mah vacuum SHOULD BE. If you've been following you'll notice that my newly purchased Cobra II has the vacuum advance hooked to the manifold vacuum and there is absolutely no PVS -- nor any obvious spot where I could install one.

This is, of course, what I love about owning old cars and learning new theory.

SO, wanna hear what I've deduced so far?

Here we go. Feel free to correct me.

System 1: Controls

Brake booster is hooked up to Manifold Vacuum on tree at rear of manifold
Transmission is hooked up to Manifold Vacuum on tree at rear of manifold

System 2: Emissions

EGR is hooked to an EGR Vacuum control Valve (which provides vacuum to the EGR valve when the coolant temp reaches a certain level).
Ported vacuum is attached to this valve. It is Ported vacuum because the EGR recirculates exhaust gas (to be reburned) and would need to do so when the engine is under load (higher RPMs).

System 3: Ignition

Ported Vacuum goes to a PVS (a thermal Ported Vacuum Switch)
Manifold Vacuum goes to the PVS
The PVS is hooked to the timing advance on the distributor.

Under normal conditions the timing is advanced as the RPMs go up. The PVS always allows ported vacuum.

When the engine starts to reach an above normal operating temperature, the switch will open to allow the manifold vacuum (at idle - say in traffic or while you're getting a quick BJ by the Holland Tunnel - $40) to advance the timing to increase the RPM which in turn aids in cooling (fan, h2o circulation).

I don't have access to the car, but I am trying to figure out a second Ported Vacuum source for the EGR.

Anyway, thanks for the photos and let me know if you can help me fill in any info or shoot holes in my theory.
