Finally broke down and bought a new PC This post mostly for the somewhat computer savey(geeks we may have upon us)
After 5 years it time to upgrade the beast. My Secondary pc took a dump finally, so the main pc moves down to the secondary.
Dead pc xp2400 mobile cpu, over clocked 500 mhz, featuring an anccient
Gforce 4 4600 video card, with 1G ram
Will be replaced by main rig, Athlon 64 3200+, Gforce 5950 ultra video card, and 2g ram. Slightly overclocked.
Now on the new system, I cut as many corners as I could. Not trying to get the best system out there, but more bang for the buck.

safe to assume you're putting this together yourself?
Did you purchase locally or through a nationwide vendor?
Looks sweet.

After doing quite a few component mods, I just built my first computer from scratch. It really wasn't all that difficult and I saved a bundle.

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.

New computers are always fun. I'm glad you got a great deal. It sounds like this will keep you current for a while.

Looks great! I would scratch the Vista and load a copy of XP. Or better yet one of the newer Linux OS like Umbuntu. IMHO Vista is a real mess, here's a cool vid of a Linux desktop.

Vista has DirectX 10.
I doubt he would have dropped the coin for an 8800GT without wanting to use it.

looks like a bunch of useless crap. Wow, you can make all the windows do crazy stuff. make the programs and stuff easier to install and use, and linux is much more tempting. I gave Linux a chance a couple of months back and gave up and installed XP instead.
But, back to the topic, that looks like it would be a nice set-up. I have built a couple of computers and prefer building to buying.

Thanks all. I purchased from Newegg. 12 months same as cash.
Yes, I build my own rigs all the time. Easy way to save money for the
stang !
I may do a dual boot with XP and Vista.

Dual boot, the best of both worlds.

Nice system, BTW Vista 64 does not yet have all hardware drivers available.

I'm a huge fan of Newegg. I've always had great service from them and they have great prices. I'm not sold on Vista either but I guess that have to start somewhere. Definately do a dual boot.

You live in Denver. If you came out to your Cobra and found dual Denver boots on it, you wouldn't think it was the best.

should have bought a MAC. You dont have to build a thing, just take it out of the box and plug it in and go!
