That may be, but there are many ways to prevent your home from being a target in the first place that don't involve waking up and annoying your neighbors. It is better to not be a target than to scare someone off after they have targeted you.
But sure, if folks think it will scare off an intruder, go for it. I would not bet my family's safety on it though.
If I came off a bit gruff with my post I apologize to any who might have been offended.
I didn't think you came off gruff at all. I always like your opinions.

That could work if your neighbors know the reasons for your alarm going off. Don't forget, this was posted as tips from a neighborhood watch program. If your neighbor knows about it, they would come and help or call the police.
Lord knows, I wouldn't want any females breaking into my home and having their way with me.....
This is one of those "sounds good" things that in reality I don't think will do what folks think it will.
Why?
Because car alarms go off so often that frankly I doubt anyone really thinks the alarm is valid... but simply ANNOYING. When a car alarm goes off the first thought is NOT that someone is breaking into someone's car, but "there goes another car alarm!", and at night "when will they shut that darn thing off!!!???!!!!".
Nope, sorry, I don't think this will work for the vast majority of people.
If you want a security system or panic alarm, get one. Car alarms annoy, not protect.
I agree with you, Sam, but if it's all a person can do, I say do it.
As for me, I have a loaded .32 Beretta in the night stand that I depend on. Although I do keep my car keys (purse) very near my bed....we'll call that the "back up plan."
