Default Put Your Car Keys By Bed

PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT
Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Doctors Office, the check out Girl at the market, everyone you run across.
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car batte ry dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:
It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around...after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there....
This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.
P.S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is fantastic. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone.
My Mom has suggested to my Dad that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.

That's a really cool tip! Although, you wouldn't hear the alarm over the sound of all my gunfire... LOL

The only problem with that is that I'd forget where I put my keys and end up being late for work!!!

That's why I have a Brink's security system installed on my home!!!!

My problem is accidently hitting the panic button when the keys are in my pocket. All of the sudden the garage erupts with noise and the dogs go crazy.

This is one of those "sounds good" things that in reality I don't think will do what folks think it will.

Why?

Because car alarms go off so often that frankly I doubt anyone really thinks the alarm is valid... but simply ANNOYING. When a car alarm goes off the first thought is NOT that someone is breaking into someone's car, but "there goes another car alarm!", and at night "when will they shut that darn thing off!!!???!!!!".

Nope, sorry, I don't think this will work for the vast majority of people.

If you want a security system or panic alarm, get one. Car alarms annoy, not protect.

Definately agree there BUT I think the point is that it will potentially scare the burglar off. There's a better chance of that than getting the neighbors involved.

That was my thought, too... And, if you lock your keys in your car, you can just shoot the lock out, like in the movies!

Seriously, though given the choice of a car alarm or a .357, I know which one I'd pick. But, if you DO happen to have your car keys in your pocket, and need help, it's another option to consider. Or, if you need your wife to bring you a beer!

That may be, but there are many ways to prevent your home from being a target in the first place that don't involve waking up and annoying your neighbors. It is better to not be a target than to scare someone off after they have targeted you.

But sure, if folks think it will scare off an intruder, go for it. I would not bet my family's safety on it though.

If I came off a bit gruff with my post I apologize to any who might have been offended.

That alarm won't sound until the battery goes dead. It automatically goes off after about three or four minutes.

Make it a point to clean your guns outside while everyone watches.

+1 and also make sure to lay obvious large bear traps along your front path too. make sure to make the burglar feel as welcome as possible

And I only thought it was good for finding my car in a mall parking lot or scaring little old ladies walking near.

i keep my keys beside my bed on the nightstand because thats where i keep my keys. if i feel like getting up and getting into my car quickly and going somewhere in a hurry, i know they are less than 1 foot from me at all times of the day (normally they are clipped onto my belt loop on my pants by a "climbing clip" or w/e you call them)

Um, no.
If they know you have them, they'll just wait until you leave, break in and take them.
Guns should be heard, not seen.
