Here's kind of a heads up for some of you guys out here.
We have a 92 LX that we use for our show car.Being in the resto business it's about 90% restored in a sense that pretty much everything is new but the motor.
Every year we battle with the insurance company about "what if the little old lady blows a stop sign and totals the show car?" been told over and over "Oh it's only covered for book value" which is probably only 3Gs.
Well this year we dug deeper and probed the agent for info on additional coverage.
I was pointed into the the direction of American Collectors Insurance.these guys were pretty cool. They asked me a bunch of questions about mileage and what the car was used for and what it's worth, and what mods are done to it Etc.
The end result was great, with the old policy we were paying 748/yr and basically if the car got totalled we were screwed.
With the collector car insurance it cost us 267/year for 12,000 coverage.
Granted the package isin't for everyone, we only put about 1,000 Mi a year on the car,but at least it gets drivin to shows and if something happens it's covered.
Some of the stipulations were things like we're limited to 2500/yr, the car has to be in a locked garage, with this company you can drive at night (some you can't), who ever drives the car has to have had their license for at least 10 yrs. Ho and NO RACIN
BUT for you drag guys, ask you local track about racers insurance. Our track up here has it it really inexpensive, and it covers the car in the event you wipe out on the track, where your local insurace company will say C-YAH.
Hope this is useful info.
