In the theme of the ongoing gaming thread, I'd like to ask a question of the Xbox 360 gamer's we've got on this board...how many of you have experienced the dreaded 'Red Ring of Death'??
I ask this as my second 360 went toes-up last night, right in the middle of some Need for Speed Carbon action. Just wonderful. Mr. Gates, if you're reading this, your gaming machines leave a bit to be desired.
Wow... that's ridiculous. Luckily I haven't had any issues on mine yet and it's going on two years. Was yours previously repaired by Microsoft? If it has gone bad twice I would see if they if would help you out somehow.

I have a dead one suffering from the red ring of death, there is a way to see why it died, its like the blinking sequence of the red ring and mine ended up being a GPU thing (grahpics processing unit) i just ended up buying a new one, i now have 3, one for upstairs, one for the basement and one is dead lol

My first one was replaced by Microsoft - and so will be the one they sent as a replacement. Apparently the failure rate for 360's is so high (rumoured to be north of 30%), they were running out of the special cardboard boxes (aptly named 'coffins') that they send to customers to return the dead boxes in. Funny huh.
They're delicate as hell unfortunately. I bought mine so I could network with my Media Center computer upstairs and it worked great - tape tv/movies on the computer, watch them downstairs on the big tv thru the 360. It's in the basement, a cool basement, sitting on top of a shelving unit in free air/open space - and it still crapped out. Very sad.

I use my 360 constantly on my wireless network. Late last year I went ahead and converted all my remaining CD's to mp3's and put th CD's in storage. I saved a heck of a lot of shelf space and now I can just play throught my 360/ stereo off my main pc. I have roughly 23,000 songs so it's like the ultimate jukebox.
They are awesome machines so I hope you get yours fixed quickly...

You guys are lucky my brother and I are on the 5th Xbox 360..
my best friend is on xbox 360 #7!!!!! i still have my original one. My friend got his 360 right when they came out, and every few months it dies and he sends it back. when he gets his new one, they give him a new 12 month warranty. So he still has a warranty on it because the longest xbox of his has lasted 7 months and the shortest life-span of 2 days

Yeah, that sounds about right. 9 months and my first one died. 7 months later, #2 quit.
Microsoft had a new machine for me in a week. Pretty good really. Mind you, they've had a lot of practice replacing these.
Snack, I'm the same. I've got 25Gigs of tunes (plus recorded TV, movies, home vid, digi pics) I can stream downstairs to the TV/stereo in the basement via the 360. It's a great system really with the 360 and the computer - when it's working anyway!

originally the turnaround time was a month or two. Now that he is on his 7th one, they give him a new one within the week.
When you "MOD" and xbox, you make it possible to change the parameters in the game and "cheat" basically. Like in halo for example in a basic multiplayer game. You can make it so you spawn with all the best guns and your opponents have next to nothing. Also that they all spawn in a single location and you just hit them with your unlimited ammo (also a cheat with the modded xbox) and just rack up the kills with your souped up rocket launcher that does 10x normal damage.
I watched all the reviews of the PS3 VS. 360 and I thought just to wait it out.. good thing too.. I'm still not sure which to buy but the first out seems to have more problems... needless to say, I will have to get something to keep up with the best games.

Another thing to consider is the Blu Ray built into the PS3. Now that HD DVDs are all but dead it makes the PS3 more viable in that capacity. I've never really been a Sony gamer but if I ever grab a PS3 it will be for Blu Ray... that is until the price of the players come down.

Ok, that's cool. I really need to practice up on the FPS games. I mainly race and do adventure games and what not. My wife loves all the puzzle games and we both do the classic arcade games in the arcade section. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my 360 doesn't screw me but still so far so good!
