Since I'm on the East Coast and no chance of making the Arizona AFM meet in September, I'm testing the waters to see how much interest there is for us East Coasters of having our own. Last year there was a meet in Atlanta Georgia, we can have one this year. But we would all have to figure out a time later this year and a location central for everybody, so who would be interested in coming to one? We need to plan ahead for everyone to put it on the calendar and gather $$$ to make it so the time to start organizing such an event would be ASAP so post to this thread if interested. Whether you're an old AFM veteran or a fresh new face, all AFM members would be welcome to participate and attend. But ideas are needed to get the best location for everything.
My idea would be to have it around the same time as the Arizona meet, being around Labor Day. Here on the East Coast we have several locations to consider, the beach or the mountains or somewhere close to a race track for some racing.

You've got my interest. What are you thinking of for a race track? Strip or road course? There's lots of drag strips in VA, then of course, you've got Virginia International Raceway for a road course. I'd vote for the mountains.

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.
We just come up with some ideas about when and where that everyone can agree to. A side of me wants the beach, another side says somewhere in the mountains. My first thought was Richmond, both a road course and drag racing in Dinwiddie is close by. Plus, for those with kids, there's Kings Dominion there too.

I think it is a wonderful idea. However, if things continue as they are with gas prices I don't see myself attending. Well that is unless my financial situation improves a whole lot. LOL

Last year, tripleblack went above and beyond trying to get everyone together. We had a nice time but alot of no-shows. That was very disappointing. Alot of people chimed in the thread and said they were coming. My company sponsored the picnic and there was a ton of food and then alot of no-shows. Very disappointing. Hopefully you'll have better luck.
I may be able to get my company to sponsor the food again but I am not going out on a limb for it unless we have a way to guarantee the ones that say they are coming, actually show up. I felt really bad for tripleblack last year and was a little embarrased by the turn-out. The ones of us who did show up had a great time, hell, even Vortex showed up and he lives down in Florida(of course, he came in a Camaro though ) but at least he came.
Keep us posted.
Obamacare my a$$ We are all going to pay for electing this tool.
Remember, it is almost impossible for anyone, myself included, to diagnose a problem over the internet without seeing the car. My advice is simply that, advice based on years of experience. I don't want you or anyone taking my word as gospel. I am trying to give some direction as to what I think may be happening.
Nothing's set in stone at the moment, the location is still open to debate. But I agree with Sam, wouldn't be good to get a ton of food and a great place to meet and only 8 people show up. I'll keep working on this, so anyone at all have an idea, jump in the conversation and speak up. I agree with the gas prices, so it's understandable why some couldn't make it.

Having set up things like this in the past, and had a number of no-shows, I'll offer one (hyphenated) word of advice. Pre-payment. Have people register with at least enough money to pay for food or whatever you have planned. Once they have a financial investment in the endevour, they're more likely to show up. I've seen it time and again.

I agree with registering. If you have enough people contribute to the cause, then we all can make it happen. If there is not enough people to show interest, then refund the money.
