For me the best thing about American Idiot.. I mean American Idol... is the tryouts. My wife and I watch those shows exclusively and then patiently wait for the next season so we can see a new group of characters try out.

Plus it has been proven that winning AI does not mean much. It gives you exposure but then again all of the contestants get that exposure as well. And some of the most successful contestants of AI have NOT won while the winners fall to relative obscurity.

The Gong Show and Star Search IMHO were still much more entertaining shows to watch than AI... except for the tryouts on AI of course.

I enjoy the beginnings too. when they announced the "American Idol' in a 2 hour show is a little, well actually a lot ridiculous IMO.
I was watching another program last night and flipped back and forth just to see what was happening, The show is loaded with nothing but "Fill" They announced the winner at 9:59 pm.
