My mom warned me not to wax my car or wash it to much. she said you can rinse it off but dont wax and wash it everyother day. anyone here experienced enough in this? How often do you wax and wash your car and can you do it to much?

To much wax buildup will make the paint oxidize quicker. Washing is fine, but it will strip the wax quicker. I wash my car every two weeks, california duster every day, whipe with a leather shammy whenever the dust or road grime is to bad, wax every other month. I use this stuff called "the wax shop", goes on like a glaze, whipes off without any residue and looks GREAT!

When I was younger my mom told me to pour lighter fluid over my car to clean it because it had white paint and the fluid was supposed to do a better job cleaning it. Now correct me if I'm wrong but lighter fluid and a car just don't seem to go together, do they?

tostaroller, I like your mom's advice better. And I think Mugger makes a lot of sence.

As often as possible! For some reason, whenever my neighbor sees me out washing my car, he invites me over for a drink! Go figure!!!

What a load of crap. Wash and wax it as much as ya want. Unless your paint is pure crap it'll handle car soap and wax fine. Polish cuts paint so be careful if you're using a power buffer to buff/apply polish (not wax) as you can burn through layers of paint especially on sharp edges. Wax protection only lasts a few days under blazing hot sun. I live in the most corrosive part of North America and my '90 still has shiney factory applied red enamel paint which I wash, polish, then wax as much as I can stand. You don't get wax biuldup unless you forget to remove all of it, I mean you're not puttin' pledge on it!

What the hell did you just say? Serriously read it next time...LOL If Wax only lasts a few days under blazing hot sun, Then why would you forget to remove it all??????? I believe the question was about washing and waxing the car, not a full on detail job. So yes if you are washing and waxing the car every day there will be wax buildup. You then will trap the older layers of wax under the new, which will in turn your paint into pure oxidation.

Been there, done that! My first car a '83 Mustang GLX sedan/notch with metallic blue paint. I was in the Army and washed the car everyday! Waxed it every weekend. The paint was new when I bought the car, after 18 months in Colorado Springs the paint was DEAD! Oxidized beyond repair, I tried rubbing compound, polishing compound everything, but it was only a temporary fix. After a month the paint was dull and ugly again. So unless Mr. Roberts is getting the a different grade of wax over there "in the most corrosive part of North America" Buildup kills paint

That should work fine, I would do the same, but that Ford Black paint sucks! It is my second black Mustang, the first was a '86 SVO. I swore I would never get another black Mustang! Well I think that 'lil Snake on the fender hypnotized me and made me forget or something So I'm kinda taking it easy on the paint for now, untill I can get four coats of black and another two clear on there.
