I was behind this car today, had a very throaty sound to it (dual exhaust) and SVT badges on the trunk, then I realized it had another badge, Contour. I was shocked, I didn' t know Ford's SVT Made a contour? Was it special, only for a year? I know of the Lightning, Cobra, and Focus.
I did find an article on a 1999 SVT Contour, anyone else heard of this mysterious car? It says it's a 2.5L V6 Engine that puts out about 200HP and 169tq. Edmuinds.com Article

yes, they exist a friend of a friend has a silver one. if i wasn't so set on getting a stang, i'd probably try to find an svt contour. i think it'd kick ( | ) to have a svt something lol
My aunt had an SVT Contour, she hated it, she traded it for a 2002 Chevy Impala, which she hates even more.

I looked into buying on brand new in 2000. They were made in black, green, silver, white, and a deep red color. Atleast that's what I saw. Ford made them from 1997 to 2000.
I would have bought one but: I am 6'4" and there just wasn't enough leg room. I was also disappointed with the torque: 169 ftlb. I guess I was just used to my 86 5.0. I ended up trading it in on a 97 F150 I drive daily.
One the plus side of things, the SVT Contour did handle pretty good and had a 7 or 8k redline. It sounded like a european sports car when pushed hard.
I couldn't get past burning out with the front wheels either!!

A buddy of mine has a green Contour SVT. He's still trying to crack into the 14's. He hasn't yet, with about a million mods. His best is like a 15.0 something.
97ponydriver,I think this is a awesome subject to
talk about because I love everything about the
SVT CONTOUR from the looks to the performance
it all there for a four cylinder. The coolest part is
that it has dual exhaust and a good looking rear
fasia with the screens on the bottom in my opnion.
I white face gauges read's 8K rpm but,air and fuel
cut off is at 6800 rpm from what I read before. For
the people that are still forunate to own one 97-00
SVT CONTOUR's will hold there market value all because
they are limited edition just like all the SVT's out there.
Jimgt95 it's unique that you say you seen deep red one's
because deep red and forest green CONTOURS were
the least producted so,therefor they are rare to me.
I never did know anyone with one but, seen one once
in a blue moon around town.I seen two turbocharged
white and silver(the more comman colored)SVT CONTOURS
at the track and they were bust'in high 12's and low 13's
in the 1/4 mile.I never got the chance to talk to one of the
SVT CONTOUR driver's to see what turbocharger they were
running or mod's etc. but,the white one I seen had a Procision
Turbo decal on the side of it and I'm assuming that the white
one was turbocharged because it ran what looked like a eazy
12 in the 1/4.I was very impressed to see it run and give them
tons of credit!

Dude, it's a 2.5 Liter V6, not a 4-banger.

the SVT contour's head is extrude-honed on the exhaust port...there ia a ton of thought in it, however, I totally agree with the Toaster, not even my mom would drive a 4-door
I thought it was an interesting topic too because I thought maybe it was just a regular contour with some mods and an SVT Sticker. The guy was all reving his engine. I should've gotten my gears installed then the exhaust right now I make alot of noise and very little speed
