Well, I'm really pissed, and discouraged right now.
For those that don't know me, which probably aren't very many of you anyway, I have been working to finish the paint job on my Supra before I repaint my GT's hood and trunk(got the GT with paint damage to hood and shaved the stock rear wing so far).
I have been dilegently working since springs(with frequent breaks for the summer ) to finish painting my MKIII Supra. I stripped her down to the original primer, added 2 nice coats of new primer, and about 1.5-2 gallons of OEM base paint. I finished her off with 1 gallon of High gloss clear coat. As I began shooting clear, my air hose kinked and I dropped pressure and had a little mishap on the driver side front fender. After several attempts to sand and buff, I realized I would have to strip the fender back down and reshoot it. Didn't hurt my feelings too much, as I noticed a paint run in the driver door as well so I made the best of the situation and stripped the door as well. I just wrapped up last week repainting with base/clear on the fender and door. Friday afternoon I pull the drapes off the rest of the car when I realize my clear coat over sprayed 30% of my hood, and top of the passenger fender. Great, well I found this to be a fine time to try out my new buffer/sander. Too my suprise, it WORKED. With careful speed adjustments and patience and a little Meguires Scratch X I manged to buff a 1 sq ft area clean and WOW! It looks like nothing ever happend!
So tonight, I pick up were I left off friday, and too my luck, I burn through my clear coat and base coat straight down to the primer. Now I have a 3-4" Strip of primer on a nearly fully buffed/polished hood on my almost done Supra.
What really aggrivates me, I was anticipating finishing my Supra by wednesday, and getting the GT(my Mustang) hood and trunk repainted by next Thursday. Just in time to pick up my G/F's parents from the airport and meet them for the first time. Aside the fact my g/f's father is a loyal Mustang Enthusiast, my g/f has noted to him I have been working my arse off to get the GT ready to meet him and melt some rubber in on some private property my friend owns. I feel like my Supra is NEVER going to be finished by the amount of body work that keeps arising. I am also on my last 1/2 gallon of base paint of the 2 gallons I had originally mixed for her early this summer(to ensure color matching).
Thanks for reading, I had to get this off my chest.
It'll all be worth it, your your harshest critic. So good luck to you sir and I hope that you manage to get it done soon. I know how it feels to show off a finished project to another mustang enthusiast. So hopefully it all works out for you in time.

I know all to well the anguish of being so close to finish a kick arse paint job, only to find things you have to fix and then the fix even goes horribly wrong.
you will get it right. appearances aren't everything, right? it's what's on the inside that counts.
peace out.

Well I took pics last night but didn't upload them till this morning. I can't sleep right now because I keep wanting to finish working on my car. That and the G/F is hogging the hell out of the center of the bed. Makes it hard to get comfy. Here is a pic of the damage induced. I figured out the problem. I was using the side of the buffer to polish the cowl of the hood. Like a genuis, I did not realize I did not have enough polishing compound on the side of the bonnet. I'm sure it burned through due to pure heat build up from the bonnet to paint contact. Live and learn. I am going to use this F-up as my first attempt to do a true "paint repair." If I can't fix this scratch I will strip the entire hood and reshoot. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Agenda for tonight is to install my Steeda clutch cable, firewall adapter, Quadrant and RP Syncromax Trans fluid. I need a break from the Supra. Might as well stay productive and do something that will net instant results to make me feel better and stay positive.
Okay, I tried posting two pics, the one shown above is actually the driver side fender and door that I just finished repainting. Car has dust and some dirt on it now since I have been trying to buff it in the garage(I realize that makes no sense, just explaining why it's not clean).
black is the toughest color to make look good. you can hide imperfections in lighter colors, but black will magnify any defect under the paint or on the paint.

Do you have to finish the Supra first? (Is that self-imposed or some other legitimate reason?) That's not meant to sound judgemental. I'm just wondering if you can just stop working on the Supra, fix the Mustang up, then go back to the Supra (after the GF's peeps visit).
Good luck with it all!

Well, I suppose I could stop the Supra progress and focus purely on the GT. I wanted to finish the Supra first because I still have mirrors, front lip, fender trim, license plate panel and rear bumper to repaint. These parts are all sanded in my storage room ready for primer. I was aiming to finish the Supra before starting the GT.
Supra is brown by the way not black. Looks dark because it's a deep brown. Also very complicated to take photo's in a one car garage. Looks rough now with polish and wax thrown all over it. I'll clean it up and get better photo's for once I start piecing her together again.
I would just finish the GT, sounds like there is not a whole lot to do with that. When you finish it, you will feel better, because thats one less thing to do, and the gf's rents will be proud of you haha!! Also, try expalining to the die-hard mustang fan that you didnt finish the mustang because you were working on an import. Dont get me wrong, i like supras, but still. Good luck, id like to see the finished products!
