I've got a really big problem and if you could get back to me ASAP that would be great.
Long story short: Just bought a 98 Cobra with 125K on it, 3 weeks in the cluster gear for 5th snapped so its in the shop right now. We asked the guy to take a look at any other parts that need to be replaced so that we can get it all taken care of while its open. He tells us that it would be wise to replace the following along with the gear:
Input shaft gear
bearings with synchro rings
the clutch (which he says has about 30-40%) left
and a new engine seal
price for everything including labor at $2542.75 and without the new clutch $2149
we have $750 being covered by our warranty
I've got a few choices here, get everything replaced and pay the $2,500
or just get the cluster gear replaced and then sell the car. I'm worried that 3 weeks in to owning the car this can't be a good sign of things to come...
Do I have any alternatives? Would it be cheaper to just replace the whole
tranny with a high performance one?
I could really use some good advice.
Thank you!
I forgot to mention the parts will be after market as dealer parts will be thousands more
