I liked the II. Our neighbor's daughter had one. She'd wash and wax it every weekend in her bikini, which she filled out nicely.

Every male family member (uncles, grandfathers, cousins) came to visit us on the weekends, sit on the porch and shoot the breeze wearing sunglasses.

She had a modded Cobra II.

Saw her in a club in t-town a few years ago, her boyfriend happened upon the car and bought it for her. It was still gorgeous, and so was she!

In other words, you never actually looked at the car but have fond memories of it, anyway? (Heh!) Given the situation, I completely understand.

Car? what car?

No actually, it was blue with white stripes, and had custom script, and custom wheels. It was a cool car.

She lived right across from the Corvette specialty shop that was in our neighborhood. She and that car put the vettes to shame.

There WAS a replica from Corvette Summer that was serviced at the shop on a regular basis.

Default Mustang II

I AM SURE THE MUSTANG II WAS AS GOOD AS ANY OTHER STANG. BUT I BUY VEHICLES FIRST ON LOOKS THEN ON PERFORMANCE. I JUST DIDN'T LIKE THE STYLE. MY 1979 5.0 WAS GORGEOUS BUT WAS GUTLESS.

Talk about a blast from the past, this thread is old…….

Actually the first mustang II’s sold like hot cakes, they were very popular, but it didn’t last. My personel favorit was the Mustang II Mach I (shouldn’t it be Mach II) sharp car!

But then I am partial to Mach’s!

The II looks more like what a Mustang should be, than my car does.
It's slow? Mod it!!!
One might even think that they didn't make Mustangs between 1978 and 2005...
This is a good thread to resurect.

yeah, the original was a rebodied Falcon -a compact family car, the Fox was a rebodied Fairmont.

The current is a rebodied Lincoln, with a Mazda3 front suspension.

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

How on earth can the current one be a rebodied Lincoln?

Its built on the LS platform.

But the Falcon, LS, and Fairmont were not Pintos.

I just think they are Ugly. My Opinion... I think the only car I like from the 70's is the Trans Am S/Es I cant think of anythign off the toip of my head between 71-79 that I like.

Aft of the front subframe it's a Lincoln LS. The front subframe of the lincoln was too small for a 4.6L so they adapted a Mazda 3 subframe.

The T-Bird also uses the platform, so does the Jaguar S-type.

Biggest case and point? You never see a hot-rodder with a "Pinto Suspension" they all want the "Mustang II Suspension." Why? Because they are different. From appearance, performance, and ride standpoints, there are key differences.

Another goody? The Pinto didn't have the "toilet seat" under the front subframe. (It was called the "toilet seat by the guys who developed the part because it was there to hug the car's bottom!) It made a hee-uge difference in the car's ride and handling as well.

The Mustang II doesn't share it's wheelbase with the Pinto.

The Mustang II had an engine not available in the Pinto (the 302/5.0 (depending on year)).

The Mustang II also had an amazing instant aftermarket starting in 1974 just like the 05+ Mustangs did starting in 2005. Cragar and American Racing came right out to make wheels. Offenhauser saw the need for performance and put out intake manifolds for the 2.3 and 2.8 right off the bat. RoksStok (German company) already had expirience with the Cologne engine family and brought over it's line of performance and dress-up parts. There were even turbo kits available for the 2.8 by 1978 for the Mustang II and it's distant-cousin-imported-from-Germany Capri.
When the 302 came back in 1975 Hooker couldn't wait to get headers out there, and Edelbrock brought out a smog-legal 302 intake for them.

Hmmm.... buyer response to the 2005 wasn't even as good as the '74... wonder if they'll be hated in 30 years?

I had a king cobra. Great car, slayed anything on the road at the time(1991 I owned it). I would love to get my hands on one. This isn't mine but mine was the same colour. I have never heard a car sound quite like it did. 302, 4bbl and a crazy cam, headers, about 2 feet of straight pipe and glass packs. no tailpipes, exaust ended right unb=der the seats! Louder than most harleys.

According to a Ford engineer I was talking to the S197 Mustang platform and the Lincoln LS have only a single crossmember in common. Other than that they share nothing. He made no mention of anything being common between the Mustang and any front-wheel drive Mazda.
