What SVT Ford would guys rather have. Focus, Contour or Lightning? Take away power and torque, just based on sheer driving fun and excitement. I personally love those little SVT Focus, nice little cars and they are pretty damn quick and can out handle my stang. Just wondering.

Umm.... I'd EASILY have to say 1st-generation Lightning (from the mid-90s) a 351 Windsor, bad-ass wheels, seats, graphics, and gauges, along with it's ability to realistically do work when needed! :thumbsup

Yeah, but they're not too realistic for use as an acutal "truck" the 1st-gen Lightnings are... but I also use a similar argument for the Chevy Silverado SS over the new Lightning, the SS is more refined overall, while the Lightning is superior in straight-line acceleration... I guarantee ya that the SS would win on a road-course, and is the better candidate for use as a "truck".
As far as the other SVTs go...
Focus: Ford's appeal to the riceboys, and a counter to Chevy's Cavalier Z24.
Contour: actually a pretty sweet car for a FWD, but it had limited appeal overall and wasn't refined enough to compete with Hondas and Acuras in the same price range.
Mustang Cobra: A car that begs for attention too much, and continues to impress and dissapoint entusiasts at the same time.
1st-gen Lightning: a truck that took the already spectacular F-150 and jumped it up a notch, 2nd in the "sports truck" world (the Dodge Dakota Shelby was first) it combined a great-quality work truck with all the refinements of a sports car.
2nd-gen Lightning: a truck that begs for attention much like the Cobra, but has more to show for it. These trucks are fast, but the modular motor, fiberglass body bolt-ons and fiberglass/plastic bumpers make it ultra-unrealistic for any sort of work/towing duty.
Ford F-150 SVT: I've seen ONE of these, and heard of others, came with a tuned 4.2 V6 and some nice custom parts installed, my buddy Reagan had one down into the 13s with some work and a shot of nitrous.

This depends on what kind of "work" you are talking about. I can't give an opinion on the SS vs. Lightning because I have never driven either and therefore can only speculate.
But, if I had my choice, it would be Lightning, hands down as far as non-Mustang SVT products are concerned.

Well..
I've ridden in a new Chevy Silverado SS, they're VERY refined trucks overall, that can still do everything that you'd want a truck for.
I've driven a 1st-gen Lightning, I absolutely loved that truck, but it was a bit out of my price range at the time.
I haven't driven/ridden in a new Lightning, but my buddy who has one needed my truck to move because his Lightning couldn't realistically tow the flatbed trailer he had or carry much in the bed.

I'd still have to pick the new lightning over an older one or an SS truck. Mainly because it looks so darn good, and its so darn fast. Like I said I would just use it for daily driving, not going to start a construction company with it or anything. I would also have to take you up on that bet with the SS and lightning on a road course. Ever read that article between the lightning and the corvette? Its not just a straight line warrior.

Yeah, but the SS pickup has AWD, a better suspension package, and isn't overly torque-happy (which can hurt coming out of curves) not to mention the SS's better brakes.
It's not like either one of us has the cash to just go out and buy one of these pickups just to race them through a road course.

I would get a new Lightning.. fine trucks. We looked at them before we bought the Sport Trac, we just could not go the extra 10k for the Lightning.
They make great tow vehicles, I have a good friend that uses his 2002 Lightning for his Performanc shop, and to haul his drag car, 91 LX Mustang. He had never had a problem with his truck.
