While Dale has not been able to be around much over a year or so due to a number of personal issues he is dealing with, I do know he has recently been able to get back to working on building his 347 stroker and is indeed, using the coast high 347 kit.
While I realise Dale may have had issue with his crankshaft, if there were problems with chp crankshafts, I beleive that to be no longer be the case. Over the last 6 to 8 months I have been researching 331 and 347 short block assemblies available on the market today, for a stroker build project we are doing here at AFM for publication in Mustang Enthuisiast and then on our website. Over the last 6 to 8 months I have spoken with a number of well respected experts and professionals in the mustang field who have actual first hand knowledge working with Coast High's 331 and 347 short block assemblies, as well as assemblies from other manufacturers. While there were a very small number that took issue with chp, these same individuals also took issue with D.S.S. since their preferred approach was to have the engine hand assembled by a local machine or racing shop. While this maybe the prefered approach by some, especially if the engine is being built for some serious race duty both on or off the track, there were far more that not only did not take any issue with CHP or D.S.S. short block assemblies but indeed actually recommended them for most mustang applications including street and street/strip applications.
Our stroker buildup project team include Joe from Chicane Sport Tuning, Danny Swanson from Swanson Dyno Tuning and last but not least, Ed Curtis from Flowtech Induction. All of these individuals have first hand knowledge dealing with chp stroker kits and each, in their own area of expertise, are well respected within our Mustang community. Both Joe and Ed have many satisfied customers using Coast High strokers, and Danny has put plenty to the test on his shop dyno. After much discussion with all three, as well as many others within the industry, it was decided that we go with Coast High Performance's 347 stoker short block assembly, and last month I placed it on order. The purpose of our project buildup is to build a reliable, naturally asperated emmissions legal 347 stroker for the street, that would see some but limited strip action.
Ed Curtis is in charge of the overall product selection, which include the 347 Coast High engine assembly using a sportsman block, AFR 185cc aluminum heads, Edelbrock Performer II Intake and High Flow Water Pump, Danny's custom grind camshaft, Scorpion Roller Rockers, Accufab 75mm Throttle Body, Pro-M Mass Air Meter, Canton Road Racing basepan and main gridle, complete MSD ignition setup and Bassani high flow exhaust system with shorty headers. Joe at Chicanes Performance Tuning will be doing engine assmbly and installation. Danny from Swanson's Dyno Tuning will be doing dyno testing and computer recalibration. It should be fun
Guess I will have to wait and see how it all turns out but I am confident that the project will yeild the desired result. A strong reliable, naturally asperated, emmisions legal 347 stroker, that will easily deliver in excess of 400 hp at the flywheel. All with out of the box parts, with the exception of Danny's custom grind cam.
