Well since it seems that you guys don't mind me hanging around even though I no longer own any Mustangs or Fords I figured I would give some first hand insight into the difference between my old 2001 Mustang Cobra and my new 2003 350z.
1. Suprisingly the 350z actually has more room in it for me.
2. The 350z is fast, but you don't feel the torque like in the Cobra.
3. At high speeds the 350z feels more dangerous and faster. Example at 120 mph the Cobra didn't seem like it was that fast, but the 350z feels like you are floating at 120mph and I immediately began to slow down.
4. The Cobra sounds alot more vicious and meaner when you rev it.
5. It's somewhat hard to spin the tires in the 350z, I suppose a neutral drop would do it (bad) or holding down the brake and push the gas pedal but I cannot just spin off the line like I could in the Cobra. It could be because I have an auto and not a stick in the 350z.
6. The 350z is definitely faster than the Cobra from 0-60 it really takes off like a rocket, but on the top end past say 75mph the Cobra is definitely faster and has alot more in it to keep up a steady or increasing acceleration while the 350z feels like it falls off.
7. The handling of the 350z is not even comparable to the Cobra, I can take turns at really amazing speeds where I would have to hit the brakes in the Cobra and slow down and the 350z does not kick the tail out when you take a turn fast from a dead stop it just corners it smooth and fast.
All in all the 350z is more comfortable for me, but the Cobra was definitely overall faster. However let me tell you the biggest difference between the two.
Tonight I'm driving along on the highway going about 68mph and a riced out something passes me. It had all the essentials fart can, big wing, body kit, decals, etc. however it had all it's badges removed so I couldn't really tell what it was lol. It could have been anything from an Accord to a Neon and I wouldn't know lol. Well anyway I decide I'll catch up to them and see what happens. I catch up and match their speed, all they do is stare and point as if they just found the holy grail of cars lol.
By now I'm expecting them to rev on me or take off or something, but they didn't so I decided to see what happened if I passed them. So I hit it a little not alot and took it up to about 80 or 85mph. The ricer just stayed it's current speed and did not attempt to follow me or catch up to me or anything.
Now I've been in this situation dozens of times in the Cobra and everytime the ricer would rev on me or take off real fast and I would have to smoke them, but they didn't even attempt to try to race me or rev on me in the 350z. So the biggest difference between the two I think is respect, the ricers respect certain imports like the 350z, Rx-7, Supra, S2000, WRX, Evolution, etc. because they know they cannot win so they don't bother and instead look at you in amazement. I think tostaroller would agree with me on this, these ricer kids are afraid of the truly quick imports.
What I really find funny is even though they are afraid of the 350z or the S2000 or whatever they will go out of their way to challenge any Mustang or Camaro they see on the streets when in reality they probably have a much better shot at beating a 350z than a stock or even possibly modded Mustang or Camaro. Foolish kids
