Default 1999 Mustang GT or 1999 Mustang Cobra?

I have the opportunity to pick up one or the other locally. Both are setup with gears and the usual bolt-ons and the mileage is about the same. The GT has a Saeleen body kit and an 03 motor. Both are manual transmissions, and both come with some new spare parts. Price is within a couple hundered dollars so that is not an issue. My question is, which one do I choose? My other GT is getting lonely.
Any ideas?

Damn, the Cobra doesn't come with a spare. Does that mean I go for the GT?

I'm Snake so it's academic. You will like the quad cam heads and 32 valves. They breath like a sherpa guide on the side of everest at 25K.

All things being equal (condition, mileage, etc) I'd go for the Cobra over the GT for the same price.

Thanks for the responses, I am asking this only because I read that the first year IRS on the Cobra wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Also the 99 Cobra motors supposedly didn't produce the rated horsepower. My preference is Cobra, I was just looking for anyone who may have had issues with a conversion year vehicle.

I found this release by Ford, maybe it was fixed on that car.

1999 Cobra Sales Stopped!Effective immediately, all dealers must discontinue the sale of all 1999 SVT Mustang Cobra vehicles.

Ford's Special Vehicle Team recently completed an investigation into a customer concern regarding a shortfall in engine power on the 1999 SVT Mustang Cobra. The investigation has confirmed the 1999 SVT Cobra is not achieving its horsepower rating of 320hp.

We are preparing a communication to all 1999 SVT Cobra owners advising them of this concern, and informing them that they will be contacted when parts to complete the service action are available. The service action will consist of a remanufactured intake manifold with improved airflow, a new low-restriction exhaust muffler assembly, and an enhanced engine electronic control module recalibration.

SVT will provide all dealers with a copy of the customer letter prior to its being mailed to customers. Additional information on the service action, as well as the process for adjustments for floorplan reimbursement, will be communicated as soon as possible.

Questions should be directed to the SVT Information Center at 800-367-3788 (800-FORD-SVT).

The "fix" is well known in the Cobra community. Ford didn't produce a 2000 Cobra because they spent the whole year putting the horsepower where it should have been on the 99s. It taught Ford a lesson. The 03-04 Cobras were underrated by about 25-30 horsepower. The IRS got bad press purely because the drag racing crowd didn't like the extra weight and in high power/sticky tired applications it can spit halfshafts (500-600 and above). The road racer and real world driving crowd likes the IRS. In fact if you don't want your IRS, many stick axle guys are converting to Cobra IRS (and more than willing to swap) for the better handling. It depends what you want to do with the car. The GT's stick axle is better for drag racing applications in serious applications. The Cobra in every other way is better including resale. As much as we love them when we buy them, we must keep in mind we will probably tire of them and pass them to be someone elses dream car.
