This is for the dog people. The other day I took a dog off a co-worker. He's a beautiful boston terrier but has been ignored and wasn't treated well so I felt the need to take him off his hands. The problem is he has cherry eye... and right now I can't afford the surgery to fix it. I don't know what to do... I don't want to give him to the humane society or anything because my son is already falling in love with him. Any suggestions on what I could possibly do? any thoughts would be appreciated.
Poor thing - Cherry Eye is so uncomfortable for them!! I commend you for taking care of this baby!! Thank you for not dumping him in an already overburdened & overcrowded shelter system!
My starting point would be to contact your local Humane Society - they often will see pets that need medical care for free or nominal cost for hardship cases. If you don't have a humane society, look into a Vetrinary College nearby - explain your situation, they may help being they are a teaching school.
I would apply for an Individual LifeLine Grant through UAN:
and ask them if they know of any other organizations you can apply to for financial help - they are out there! Fill out the form completely - they are sticklers for proper information.
Thank you for that advice. I'm pretty positive we have a humane society (considering i volunteered there a few years back... which by the way I thought it was odd they charged people to volunteer) in our town so I think that is going to be my first route and if not I'll keep working on it. I'll post some pics of him when I get home and I can take some.
the above sounds like good info. I've never heard of Cherry Eye. I'm in Iraq, but one of my girlfriends friends dumped their dog on us. My G/F is not a dog person, never kept one long enough to get through puppy, but she knows how much I love big dogs and want one, so she's raising him until I get home.
He spent his first six months in a cage and was barely housebroken, if at all, but he's a good dog. I can't wait to meet him. We named him Marley (from the movie) and he took to it immediately. He is a Shepherd/Boxer mix.
Here is a picture of him.
Good on you for taking in that animal. Some of the best dogs I've had were rescues or dogs that were given to me by other people. All they need is attention and a loving family. He will be the best dog if he gets that from you. I hope you can help him.
Well UAN doesn't help animals who aren't in immediate need of help and they have to be in mortal danger. But I went ahead and emailed them asking if they knew anyone that could help me. I'll be heading to the humane society on my lunch break...The only local veterinarian school is only a pre-veterinarian school and doesn't do worked like judi said. So I'm really hoping the humane society can help me out.
sooo just tell the vet u agree to pay 20 bucks a week til it is payed off??
at least the little guy wouldnt be struggling no more thats really tough to hear man, i hope u can afford 20 bucks a week at least to get him taken care of good luck dude

UAN might be able to point you in the right direction.
Let us know how you can make out!
I'll research other avenues if the HUS doesn't pull through - they really should! Good advice given above is asking the vet if you could pay it off in good faith... but I know many don't work that way, they've been taken one too many times... don't ask the receptionist either - even if you have to make an appt... see the vet and speak with him or her directly. Many won't let an animal suffer and if they do - you don't want them as your vet anyway.
Man I don't even know what kind of advice I could even begin to give other than follow Judy's words and try all avenues, somebody has to be willing to help without putting the almighty dollar first.
My wife and I commend you and your familly for taking it that poor creature, we really hope you and yours the best.
Good Luck
Good for you man, the world needs more people like you and your family who are willing to help the one's that cant help them selves.
i live in yellowknife canada where are winters are cold, like -40 or -50 below cold and a some guy had to leave to go work at one of the mines farther up north and he would be gone for 3 or 4 months so he couldnt keep the puppy, he told me that if he didnt find someone to take the puppy that he would just leave it outside in the cold weather, at the time it was -40 so i took the puppy and he has become a member of my family and its funny to say but i would be lost with out him.
Im not sure what you guys and gals have over there so its hard for me to recomend a place for you to look but if i find anything that will help you i will send you the info, again good for you and i hope everything works out.
Well heres an update. I went and saw the humane society earlier today and they had told me they wouldn't be able to help me with anything other than shots and neutering/spaying. I did speak with a vet this afternoon though and I'll be going to talk to him in the morning about possibly financing the surgery. I'm sorry I still haven't gotten pictures but I promise as soon as he is all fixed up I'll get them.
bring the poor lil guy to the vets WITH you... you know for sympathy... i know if i could help him, AND had the resources to fix him up, i would do it in good faith and believe that u are going to pay for ur services... although im sure i would never make any money which is why im not gonna be a vet lmao cuz i would just keep saving animals for free cuz i feel bad
