That's sad to hear and it happens everyday. I know i have my complaints about cops, i still belive there are good ones and bad ones, though they have a hard job to have.
I do think police officers need to be thanked more often. Soldiers do get thanked but i think they get thanked more cause people know that they have to go to the Desert and so on for 12 months up to 18 months away from friends and family. Sometimes in places that you are constantly getting shot at every minute, every day or every week. Not to mention watching out for road side bombs, sucide bombers, or mortars.
Most people see police and think..."tickets" and so on and not..."hey that person is protecting me right now, though nothing is going on. But if it did, he would give his life to do the right thing for me or others".
I've been in the service for 12+ years and i've probably been thanked about 10 times, about 8 of them were older veterans. But it still feels good to get a thanks.
I think we should all atleast thank the next police officer, fireman, even someone that drives an ambulance the next time you see one.

i would have to agree with 1994mustang. there are good cops out there and there are bad cops out there. but a cop that writes you a ticket for you doing something illegal, is not a bad cop, or a jerk cop, or an a-hole. you did something illegal, and you SHOULD be punished for it. they dont write the laws, they just enforce them (p.s. im saying "you" as a general term, im not specifically referring to your taillight problem).
i can say that from my experience, most cops are actually pretty cool. ive been pulled over 3 times for doing illegal things. (once for going 6 MPH over, once for repeatedly flashing a cop with my brights because i thought he had his brights on and i had no clue he was a cop!!! and once for not coming to a complete stop at a blinking red) really, i should have gotten a ticket for every one of thos offenses because i was breaking the law, but the only one i got a ticket for was the rolling stop. most cops understand, and just give you a warning. and seriously, when is the last time you got a ticket for speeding when you were going like 15 over, that they ACTUALLY wrote 15 over. that almost never happens around where i live at least.
a bad cop is a cop like we had here in my home town. we had a guy (detroit cop), come up to the library (less than 300 yards from where i work) where his wife was at the time, and he shot her dead in the parking lot. there was a standoff with the REAL men in blue before he eventually popped one in his brain. you want to talk about bad cops, THAT is a bad cop. thank god this happened within 200 feet of the police station, otherwise who knows who else this man would have shot.

im doin 25 down a hill in my ol 87 stang, but cuz it was a lil loud he THOUGHT i was flying... he also being the guy standing in the middle of the road with no reflective gear at night and i ALMOST hit him!! i couldnt see him til very last second his badge reflected off my headlights... so i swerve around him, he stops BSing with the gangstas on the porch gets in his car and chases me... well, it turns out i forgot to use my turn signal when going right... with NOBODY to alert that i was turning right, apparantly this offense was so horrible thats what i got a ticket for... when he pulled me over he asked how fast i was going, and dude, i swear to god i was only doin 25 cuz it was down a steep hill im on the brakes and i cant see very well i KNOW i was not speeding... so i tell him i was doing 25... he says ya u were doing 25 my butt!! *attitude for NO reason* my car was perfectly legal, had all my stuff inspection report, insurance cards, registration, and of course valid license... he was a jerk for no reason cuz HE was standing in the middle of the road at night and i couldnt see him... ok so i forgot to use a turn signal in the middle of the night cuz i was scared to death i almost just hit a cop!! with NOBODY around to tell i was turning right EXCEPT the guy i almost hit?!!
to me, that guy was just a bad cop or a cop that had a really bad day.. OR he was just so ticked off that i almost hit him... i dunno but how am i supposed to know he was there if he was wearing dark blue and his badge was the only thing that hinted to me that he was there??
i have also ran into a GREAT cop before... i was driving my brothers car, MUCH faster than my old 89 bronco lmao and i was doin 75 mph in a 50 i told him im sorry i didnt realize it cuz im not used to the car and he just simply let me go...

sounds to me like you just got him on a bad day, or maybe he had some car jealousy, but either way, you should have used your turn signal.... (i know you didnt want to hear that!!)

sorry man, but ur right, the truth IS, i have met more "good cops" than i have met "bad cops" sorry to emphasize on my bad cop stories lol even tho i shoulda told myself to turn my signal on cuz i was turning hahahaha
and if any *Commondantes On Patrol* are reading this, thank you for what you do to keep the rest of us safe from the idiots... you all really do provide a wonderful service... and if it werent for the bad cops, i wouldnt have drive to want to be an officer myself... cuz i would go and do my job and do the best i can to be fair to everyone...
