Default A reason why you RESPECT the police

A Winston Salem police sergeant with 27 years of service lost his life protecting the wife of a disgruntled ex husband. This man entered the Bojangles with a gun and demanded to see his ex wife. The panic button was hit and two officers responded. A footchase ensued and a standoff happened, the two officers were shot by the suspect. One officer got shot in the neck and center of the chest, his bulletproof vest saved him and the neck wound wasn't life threatening and survives. The sergeant was shot in the face with a 9mm and it wasn't able to be removed, he lived for two days before expiring. At least this miserable excuse for human flesh was subsequently shot twice in the head and one in center of the chest, he was dead before he hit the ground. Now no one will ever have to deal with such a lowly excuse for a human being.

These men and women who decide to enter law enforcement know the dangers involved and the element of not knowing whether or not they will come home after their shift. Amid all of the donut jokes, complaints of their having to write tickets to people, harassing supposed law abiding people, and those of us with hot rods get their attention just by being there, these people step forward and willingly go into the line of fire. When it comes time for someone to actually need police protection, these individuals who you just complained about will show and in some instances, lay their lives down to protect those who they would otherwise never have known.

Give respect to a man who gave his life in the line of duty. I was out in town and ran into a processional... of nothing but sparkling police cars in route to the funeral for this admirable man.

The funeral was carried on News 14-TW cable. Nice ceremony for an upstanding man.

There's cars from all over the state there. My father was in law enforcement and I was about two steps from having a badge myself but I went in the car direction instead.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I am sure the community not only lost a good Officer but a good man.

Thank you eagle. I have heard about and been to far too many funerals for fellow Brothers and Sisters in Blue. Each time it touches deep into me soul. I am amazed at the amount of people that will thank a soldier for serving and forget the police and firefighter that place themselves in harms way everyday.

police officers have to be able to handle the b#tching, moaning and complaining that comes with the job. sure we get tired of it and some times we have bad day. But every time I go to work I could save a life, take a life, or lose a life.

My Prayers go out to the family. GOD Bless!

Dear Lord, be with me on my beat
this day and every day.
Grant that each weary block I walk,
may ease a brothers way.
Let me be kindly to the old
and to the young, be strong~
But let me triumph over those
whose acts are cruel and wrong.
And if according to your plan,
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your protecting hand
my children and my wife.

May God be with you, sir.

That is sad but thanks for sharing. People are quick to complain sometimes but the majority of the officers out there protecting us are incredible individuals who deserve respect or at the very least a pat on the back.

My brother was pretty shaken up by this whole thing. My brother was Winston-Salem PD for about 6 years. He worked with both officers involved in this shooting while he was there. Sgt. Hutchens was his platoon Sgt for a while. Even though he's now with a neighboring PD, he went to all the services and wears the black badge loop with blue stripe right now. This very well could have been my brother in this incident and that's the kind of stuff that makes me wonder what I would do if it had been him.

this is in fact, a VERY unfortunate story... but also what is unfortunate, is 1, 80% of young ppl whom listen to music are influenced to believe that the cops are AGAINST YOU...

2. Honestly, even for me, sometimes its kinda tough... i understand EVERYONE has a bad day every now and again...but there ARE officers that truly do just harass on a daily basis, and in fact, there are a few around here that are VERY WELL KNOWN just for whom they are...
I have gotten pulled over for a broken tailight before even tho i had taillight tape over it the PROPER colors... but yet i can drive around and see ppl with an entire front drivers side corner smashed in just keep driving around month after month like that... but because i got the guy that likes to be a jerk, i had to go find tailights...

3. the police ARE on our side despite whether we want to believe it or not... i too have very well considered going and becoming one myself... however unfortunately, as this story is, your not gonna change the opinion of 80% of ppl under 25, to believe that ironically if they need help they are the first ppl to dial 911 go figure??

and i really hate to say it, but im IN that age group but i do not agree with the ppl my age... i dont drink i dont smoke i dont do drugs, i joined the military at 16 found out i have a heart condition and now i design submarines for the Navy... i wish that more kids my age could at least be HALF as sensible as i am but hey i cant change the world, i just do my part to help out...
