Ford will reveal the most expensive F-150 pickup ever and a powerful new race-track-only Mustang in Las Vegas today.
Ford will build just 50 each of the $99,950 2010 F-150 Raptor XT, an off-road racer modeled on its Baja 1000 race truck, and the dragstrip-ready 2010 Mustang Cobra Jet. Ford has not announced pricing for the Mustang Cobra Jet, which boasts a 475-horsepower, 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine, 31-inch racing- slick tires, adjustable shock absorbers and manual steering and brakes.
The Raptor XT has a 6.2-liter V8 that produces an estimated 500 horsepower, a six-speed automatic transmission, increased suspension travel and 37-inch wheels.
Ford is to unveil the vehicles at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show, which caters to racers and vehicle tuners, in Las Vegas.
Independent tuners will display customized versions of several Ford vehicles at the show, including the Mustang, Focus, Fusion, Taurus and Edge.
To demonstrate the capabilities of its Ecoboost twin-turbo direct-injection V6 engine, Ford worked with customizer Detroit Street Rods to put a 400-horsepower version of the engine in a perennial hot-rodding favorite, the 1934 Ford three-window coupe.
The 2010 run of 50 Mustang Cobra Jets has already been sold to Ford dealers.
Built at the Auto Alliance plant in Flat Rock, they should be delivered in the first quarter of 2010. Ford plans to build future models of the Mustang Cobra Jet to satisfy additional demand.
