so today i was volunteering at a special olympics event and i saved a kids life! as many of you know i am going to school to become a firefighter/paramedic but as of right now i am only certified as a first responder. so basically at this event i was an emergency health care provider. so anywayse this 9 year old kid came up to me in tears (he has autism) and i asked him what was wrong. i looked down and noticed his fingers were cought in a chineese finger trap. so i reached into one of my many pockets and grabed my scissors and had removed the finger trap. as i got it off he looked at me with a big smile and said thank you for saving my life. i looked down at him and i said "that's what im trained to do, save lives" and i patted him on the back and returned him to his mom.
then a couple of weeks ago i was stopped at a car that was pulled over and his wife was screaming for someone to help her husband. he was a man in his mid 40's and was going into cardiac arrest so i began to administer cpr and also got to use a defibulator for the first time. i was giving him cpr for almost 15 minutes untill the paramedics showed up and took over. they told me if i wouldnt have been there and doing cpr that man would have died. that made me feel good about myself that i had saved 2 people in only a week!
Good for you! The world needs people like you. I volunteer with mentally/physically disable children and it is very rewarding. Those people are lucky to have met you!
wow man, good for you i'm planning on becoming a police officer up here in Canada, in the RCMP, only another month till i turn 18 and can apply cant wait

Cold air intake
It's a great feeling to be in the right place at the right time. My wife is amazed at how many times I have intervened in similar situations. Hopefully someone will be there for me if I ever need it.

Well for the paramedic it's 2 years and I started about to months ago so I still have a Wayde to go. At the firestation I want to work at it is required that you be a paramedic.
And thanks everybody for the nice comments

Thank you so much for being selfless!! You're a hero, no matter how you slice it! I wish I had the guts to do what you do... being I don't - I send a huge thank you out!
I loved the Chinese finger trap story, too!

I'm sure I'll probably get reamed for this one & I'm not trying to play the devils advocate here or detract from what you did but acts like really shouldn't be "advertised". "Bragging" about it on a public forum (or anywhere for that matter) just takes something away. It's awesome that you did those things but a true "hero" doesn't know that they are one. I've worked as a Cop since 95' & have been involved in my share of life saving incidents & have worked with other officers that have done truly heroic things in my opinion & neither them nor I have every "advertised" our deeds. I'm not trying to bust your balls or get a huge debate going here but the greatest deeds are usually the ones that go unnoticed. You don't often get a "thank you" on a lot of the stuff you do but when you do get it and it's a sincere/unsolicited thanks from someone, it really means a lot.

he didnt proclaim himself as a national hero, that was everyone else. he was simply saying how good of a feeling it gave him to do it, not that he was better than everyone else. he is simply excited about his line of work. and i for one think its a good thing when a paramedic/firefighter is visibly passionate for his career. i mean, he is obviously fresh out of training, and he got to save his first life, how exciting is that!?!?!?! SUPER FREAKING EXCITING (just in case you forgot, or didnt know). i think his story had a moral, do good deeds, it makes you feel good. a bragger is someone that says "look what i did, now everyone bask in my superior glow" and thats not what he was doing. im sorry, but i have to say, you just sound like a bitter man...
