the wall power supply is a dual two pin plug wall socket but most extension blocks these days are 3 pin...is there anything I can do about it? | Sure, you can replace the old fixture with a new one but it won't have a ground for safety unless you have the correct wiring. You can plug a lamp into the receptacle and go turn off your circuit breakers or remove fuses until the lamp turns off. Then remove the outlet from the wall and check the wiring. If you have a black wire, a white wire and a bare ground wire you're in business. The bare ground wire connects to the green lug, the white wire connects to the silver lug and the black wire to the brass lug on the new receptacle and then re-install it. If you only have the black and white wires then you can just ground the green lug to the outlet box (if it's metal) with a short piece of bare copper wire. Then re-install the outlet and replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.
