Bullit ....probably still the best car chase movie ever made
Well I was flipping through the channels last night watching some tv, to damn cold here to go do anything (-36) OUCH! but anyways I seen Bullit again. I hadn't seen in it in a while. The really interesting part was after the movie they had a little documentary, telling how they made that car chase. I guess the documentary was made in 2002 , and Bullit was and probably still is "the benchmark " for all other car chase movies to meet. Apparently after Bullit some of the teqniques used in that film are used today. It was new to me that "The French Connection" from 1971 starring Gene Hackman was a close second.(movie critics opinions) The stunt driver in the Charger from Bullit was also in that movie. The French connection was filmed in I think New York they mentioned and like Bullit filmed at real speed...something like 65 mph. ( Bullit was filmed in excess of 100mph as some point) but The French Connection was a more crowed area and the director wanted something different that Bullit. Well they went on to compare the too movies. It's still to this day is amazing to watch nearly 40 years after it was made. (even after todays hi-tech stuff) Real sound, real speed, and McQueen (an icon) doing the driving himself...and not to mention the mystique that follows this movie.. the fact that FOMOCO made the modern day Bullit a few years ago and used McQueen in that 05' commercial which is now on the Ford website.. I don't think you can say that about any other another film.

Agree, that chase scene is off the hook, doing it in San Fran with all the hills was SO appropriate!!! I heard somewhere they were going to do a remake of the movie Why does it seem like all movies out now are "remakes?"
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thouroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, holy sh*t, what a ride!"
Yea that movie is the ****! I got the DVD for Christmas, and watched it 3 times already. I think a remake would be sweet! Maybe they could use a new edge Bullit or the 05 either would be cool.

Another GREAT car chase scene is from the 1973 movie "The Seven-Ups" with Roy Scheider. No Mustang to be found, but still a very cool chase!! Also, although I've never seen it myself, I've heard that the chase scene from the 1974 version of "Gone in 60 Seconds" is incredible. Supposedly way better than the remake.
i love bullit and vanishing point but if you neaver seen the original gone in 60 seconds it will blow you away!!!!!!!!! thay thrash a 73 mach 1 for half an hour!!!!! im goin to run out and order the dvd it got tons of extra stuff

It wasn’t McQueen’s personal car.
They got two cars direct from FOMOCO, one was chopped up to mount cameras in and the other was the one they wrecked. What McQueen did do was before the chase when the car was new he went and put several dings and scratches in it so it would look like he had some miles under the belt.
If they do a remake I hope they work on the plot a little bit, but it was a kick ass car chase.
I really do need to see the original Gone in 60 seconds…………….
