I know this is a hot topic, and probably a bad idea, so I apologize in advance. Let's see if we can be civil about this one. Is there still a lot of prejudice against race? We are discussing it in class right now, and I'm hoping for some more opinions.

My opinion, is that almost everybody is a little prejudice. They all are not racists however. only really the ones that take it to extreme are racists. I took a class about this subject about over 4 years ago. It was a great class and I really learned from it. But I know that's one of things it taught me. pretty much everybody is a little prejudice, but just not racists.

Still pretty bad around here. It's not that unusual to here some ass wad making a racial joke when just we white folks are around. The sad part is a lot of these guys (and gals) think they are being really cool when they do this. The one thing I have noticed about this is that the lower the education level of the person, the more likely they will spout this trash. They seem to blame everyone else but their selves for their lot in life.

I know for a fact it still exists. It exists in places and levels of responsibility that it has absolutely NO place being. For instance, there were a number of people in my old command a couple years ago that got caught on tape by the news at an Aryan Nation rally. It was not a huge secret about these guys, but the command was waiting on some rock hard proof about it. Once this newsreel came out, they were immediately court martialed and received Other than Honorable discharges from the Navy. Unfortunately their beliefs carry on there. I made it crystal clear to each and every one of my guys that if I ever heard even the slightest rumor of this going on in my division while I was there that the same ends would meet them. This is not the only type of prejudice going on in my little niche of the world either. I'm a white male from the south whose family were tobacco farmers in the Civil War. Automatcially people will assume that we owned slaves and are still underground members of the KKK or something like that. Actually the truth is 180 degrees from that. My family refused to owned slave. 2 Of my grandfathers uncles were conscripted into the Confederate Navy to build ships. Their father gave them each a months supply of food and all the cash he could, 2 horses and told them to go to Canada, which they did. It drives me absolutely nuts when racist people see me with the southern drawl and start spilling their crap out because they think I'm of their opinion. I wish there was more that one man could do to make all this stop. We're well into the 21st century and some folks are just caught up in the 1850's

Yes it still exist and on all levels. Like said earlier but in the now “politically correct “ terminology it is being bias. Most everyone has some sort of bias on some level, and it does not mean they are racist.
We still have problems here, I live in a rural area and we recently had a jury trial in which a scum bag white guy cut a black guy with a beer bottle. The guy in question is one I have personally chased (both in car and on foot) and arrested several times. Before he went to the location where the other guy lived he told as group to restated it in the trial “I’m going to go cut me a n****” of course at trial they clean him up and of course they cant bring up he is a convicted felon with a long history the defense brought up he was an ex marine (no he wasn’t he enlisted to get his probation dropped and then got booted out before he even went to basic training) of course the system is so screw up we cant bring any of this up and the guy gets off. Well I know the wife of the foreman of the jury and when asked what the hell happened it was basically some members of the jury wouldn’t send a fine ex marine to prison for a fight with a black man that got a “little out of control”
I also see racist attitudes from some of out minorities, the first thing out of there mouth when they get caught doing something is that we are picking on them because of their race………..no there behavior is why they are getting picked on……………………..

But don't confuse racism with humor. Racial differences (or stereotypes) can be funny. And "white men can't dance" jokes are JUST as funny "black men with big penises" jokes. Comedians like Chris Rock and Bernie Mac spend a big part of their act on white racial jokes and they're hysterical, but a white comic had better be VERY careful about what types of black racial jokes he makes...

I'm not talking about the innocent little stereotype jokes, I'm talking about venomous jokes based in pure hate. Sure, alot of these people don't go to Klan rallys, and are not card carrying members of the Arian Nation, but their general views do not differ that greatly. Take for example the joke I hear every MLK day around here. 'Hell lets shoot four more and take the whole damn week off'. Now where is the cutesy little stereotype in that one? Espeacially when this little 'joke' is followed by a list of 'uppedy nigger' canidates.
So I guess it's hard for me not to confuse their so called humor for racism. Maybe I should have said racist jokes, instead of racial jokes, in my earlier post, because these go way past anything that could be considered even slightly acceptable.
I know how ya feel Saleen. Those jokes came to a screeching halt around me not long ago when I put one guy report for going on and on with them after I had told him to stop. I won't stand for it in my presence and I think I made a difference in quite a number of people's attitudes about this whole topic.

It would take A LOT for everyone to let racial differnces go. But i also think that pulling "Racial cards" is just not cool. Just to give you an examle (and a really funny one too), But reameber back to Me Myself and Irene. the part with the black little person was Hilarious but at the same time totally True, Just by a white guy saying "do you people accept checks?" It crates a conflics. The problem with the english language is that it can be greatly misunderstood. Mainly in text, just think of sme time someone on a forum mis read what yopu posted and started cussing you out. I really don't see it as racisism, more as hate crime, i mean i know a lot of Jokes but i'm sure as hell not going to go out and tell everyone, just people who thinks its funny and want to hear it. Its not like i take it sereously. If you want to see some racism, you should go meet some of the freinds i had in mexico, I mean the only black kid in my school was called the N word to his face... for some reason he didn't care. See, being white i'm even intimidated of typing the N word so i don't appear to be racist. it is all a mind game, you can either play or grow up. i've grown up.

I do think that I changed some attitudes. Not so much with the white guys in my division, more the minorities. For the most part they thought all southern white guys were 'Good ole Southern boys' with old southern values. After spending 4, almost 5 years with them, they realized that not every person from the south was like that.

How many of you would like the idea of your daughter or son dating an African American, Chinese, or any other race and vise versa ....Im just curious....I mean things like this is where the prejidice exists in a strong form I believe.
-I dont mind inter relationships...but when kids are born from this is when I disapprove...Mainly because every medical advancement really in a way cannot apply to them. ex; Blood Donations.
