Question Mustang Convertible - Trunk Dimensions - Help Required

Hi,

I really hope one of you guys can help me. I live in England but am travelling to California next week and would love to hire a Mustang Convertible during my stay. The problem I have is finding out the trunk dimensions as I will be travelling with a friend and want to know if our suitcases will fit (I’d rather not be driving around LA with a suitcase on the back seat!)

The hire companies like Hertz haven’t been very helpful and have only told me that the trunk capacity is 7.7 cu ft, but this doesn’t give me any idea of the height / width of the trunk.

If any of you could let me have rough internal dimensions of the trunk (length / height / width) I’d be really grateful as I’d love to be cruising around in a sexy Mustang!

Thanks,

Chris

You'll never fit two full size suite cases in there. One would be pushing it.
I'll try to measure mine later today.

I agree with Bruce. Maybe a suitcase and a smaller bag. Not 2 full suitcases.

Sorry.

I'm sorry I have to disagree, I think it depends on what year he is renting and more imortantly what size suitcases he needs to accomadate.

I was assuming a rental company wouldn’t have anything later than a 01.
They are traveling from England so I would also assume 2 larger suitcases.
Looking at my Verts trunk I don’t think it would fit.
Two smaller cases may fit; if he can tell us the size of the cases I can see what I have laying around similar to se if it’s possible.

You're right about the car year, they usualy rent newer cars and I hadn't thought of that. The suitcase size you're probably right about, too...unless they are here for a short visit. Ok, ok, ok you're right.

Do the newer models have the option of lowering the back seats down? Do you know what I mean? If so you can fit a lot more in there by doing that. I surprise plenty of salesmen with what I can fit in my little Mazda once I put the seat back down.

No my back seats don't go down.

They usually rent the V-6's too, havn't seen any GT's as rentals.

Looks like I've started a lively discussion here! Thanks for all your help.

The two suitcases are 'medium-sized' with dimensions as follows :

26" x 16" x 12"

If absoultely necessary I'll buy smaller cases as we want to travel fairly light. The alternative is to hire a Chrysler Sebring Conv., but this is more expensive to hire and doesn't have the character of the Mustang.

Thanks again,

Chris

Those may fit!!! I'm off this afternoon (with the boys) and I'll see if anything we have laying around is close and if it will fit.

Oh now we gotta make these suitcases fit, theres no way this poor guy is gonna come to America and rent a Chrysler...not on my watch!

Just out of curiosity, don't y'all called it a "boot" instead of a "trunk"?

OK-- 2 of the 26x16x12's will not fit.

The problem is the truck (boot) is not square/rectangualar. It curves at the sides because of wheels.

I was able to fit 1- 28x18x11 sideways and 1- 22x14x10 lengthways and it was tight but fit good.

You may be better of getting some larger soft duffel type bags (not military - smaller) that you can get to conform to the shape of the trunk.

You will have to leave the convertible top bra at the rental place if it's in the trunk because it takes up much of the space.

Hope this helps.

Hi again,

Thanks for the replies.

So I guess if I go and buy one suitcase of 22x14x10 to go with my other suitcase of 26x16x12, I should be okay?

Am I right in thinking that a convertible top bra is the bit that covers it over whilst the top is down?

Yes, we do call the trunk a boot in England, but I didn't want to confuse you and if I started talking about fitting things in boots you might think I was kinky or something!

Thanks again,

Chris

That should be OK; mine even had wheels and handles on that I did not include in the measurements.

Yes that is what I was referring to when I said Bra, I didn't want to say boot because I thought you would get confused. Or maybe I said bra because I was still on the Hooters thread at the time.
