Question Parked Convertible...Top up or down?

So, who leaves their convertible top down when they park it? I just got mine a month or two ago, and now that warm weather is just around the corner I have to think about such things
I don't live in a dangerous/high crime area but I still feel uncomfortable leaving it down...is that just being paranoid?
I wanted to do a poll but I didn't see how to make one.

I've never owned a vert, but I would never park it with the top down. I don't trust anyone...no matter where I am. Idiots and thieves are everywhere. Maybe I'm too paranoid myself.

It all depeneds, I try to keep mine as cleaned out as possible so there's nothing to get stolen if I do decide to leave it down, that way if someone decides they want my stereo, they aren't going to slash my top to get it. J/K, just use good judgment and if you do park it with the top down, don't be surprised if you find a piece of trash or something like that in it if you park it for more than half an hour or so.

Hi there, I'm new to this site... I've had a 95 convertable GT for 10 years, and an 86 convertable for 9 years- and an 05 GT on order. I'll leave the top down and windows up to run into the post office- you know places where you'll just be a minute or two, but in the store for 1/2 hour I'll definitley put it up. and in 18 years of convertables, and many trips to Houston, nobody has ever cut my top to steal.. be cautious, but don't be paraniod- ENJOY the ride!

I don't have a convert., but grew up with my parents having several non-ford t-tops. I concure with the rest, each trip is a judgement call. A short run in-and-out leave it down, unless it's a bad place or you have a bad feeling. Do make sure it is cleaned out of items 5 finger discounters may help themselves too. If you are longer than a 1/2 hour and cannot see it from were you are put the top up to be safe.

Enjoy

Think of it like your in a coupe, would you leave the windows down and the door unlocked? It all depends where you are and how long the car will be unattended. If its in the driveway and you are between errends or something then leave it down. But if the car sat in a crowded Walmart parking lot some hater could very well mess with it.

That's how I'd look at it. If you feel safe with the area and it's only for a few minutes, there's probably no harm in it. If it's going to be longer, I'd put it up.

If I am going to be in/out within a short amount of time, I always leave the top down. I put the windows up (all 4) as mentioned, I figure if someone is willing to crawl over my windows in broad daylight, they would be willing break a window or slash the top just the same. Just don't tempt anyone with easy pickins and set the alarm still.

Same here. I'm on my 3rd vert car and I've had 3 soft top Jeeps. The only problem I ever had was someone slashing the window on my Jeep to get in because the top was up.

use to own a car with T tops . becarefull parking under trees , The birds seem to like leaveing white " calling cards " if you know what I mean lol . The worst thing I can remember is jumping into a car that everthing was so hot in that it hurt putting your arm on the arm rest . Maybe some sun damage after long periods of exposer .

When I had one....I parked in the garage (when I was home), top ALWAYS down. When I drove somewhere, I had the top up...

If I plan on going somewhere and it will take awhile in the store, I take the wife's truck; however, if I am cruising around and stop in real quick to play lotto or run into an auto parts store, I'll leave the top down and windows up. I have 16 years with the original top so hopefully this thread does not jinx me.
