Not trying to stand up for Pep Boyz, but i was in the biz myself for years.. no auto parts store will take back an electrical part once its been hooked up unless: its defective, or it caused a problem.. if you're in tight with your parts guy you can say its defective and you can get you money back then he'll just put it back on the shelf... i did that with my trusted customers...

Yeah, I understand the fact of things being "used" (even if it was for less than 3o sec.s) That's beside the point...the manager just came up with a total a-hole attitude....He said something along the lines of "well what business are you in? and I said well as a matter of fact I'm a student right now, to which he just rolled his eyes and said oh.... " needless to say I was pissed!!!!!!! I asked him what was that supposed to mean, to which he replied (quite quickly I might add!) Oh, you're broke! I said no I'm not broke....I just don't see the point of spending almost $200 on an alt. I don't need!!!!!! Anyway it went downhill from there....It almost wasn't the point of the money at the end it was sorry ass attitude and just how igonorant he was with his "ASSumptions" Sorry to vent it just pissed me off to say the least..... At least it's fixed....later, B

Hey, I just wish we had a PEPBOYS nearby. I'm so sick of Advance and Auto Zone. My only relief is that there happens to be a fellow Stang owner at Advance. They constantly cycle through new help. I don't even bother with these guys unless it;s something simple. Otherwise I stick to catologues.

I used to work at Discount Auto, which was bought out by Advance. It was ok until Advance management messed it all up... they're all jerks.. they even pulled our brake lathe so we couldnt turn drums or rotors... my brother (who also worked for that company) jumped ship to Auto Zone.. they are actually a good company most places.

Default another location

Try taking it back to another PEP Toys, or trying when the owners not around. Try telling him you only bought it just in case you needed it. As you have said that it is still in absolutely mint condiiton as purchased. I would not have any guilt playing it up a bit.

Default if they do have a problem

Tell them to stick it on ther handy dandy alternator tester to confirm that it works and hasn't been damage in any way.

Well here in Vancouver BC, we don't have any of those companies. Autozone? Pepboys? Discount Auto? We have Lordco, Mopac, and ummm some little mom and pop shops around town. They're all generally pretty helpful. It's good to get to deal with one person..they get to know you and usually they treat you pretty good. I happen to know a manager at Lordco, he gets me some stuff at his cost sometimes!

I would write a formal complaint for the way the manager treated you. No matter what their return policy is, that manager had no right to ask what you did for a living...what does that have to do with returning an item? You should be outraged!

I'm giving you a direct link to the Pep Boys Online Complaint Department. Be sure to discribe in detail what happened and how his attitude made you feel (i.e. embarrassed because other customers turned to stare at you when he began interogation, etc). Tell them that because of this treatment you will no longer be shopping at Pep Boys and will warn your friends not to shop their either. Adding the fact that you are a car enthusiast/restorer and often post on car enthusiast sites wouldn't hurt either.

I've never had an enjoyable shopping experience at Pep Boy's, but I've made some friends down at the local Autozone and they actually take interest in their regular customers' projects. When my dad and I walk in the guys always ask "Mustang or Capri this time?" because we're in there so often, and when they can't find the part they check the other Autozone stores in the area and even check with their competitors if they can't help us out. Come to think of it, the Advance Auto Parts in our area is getting that way too, They always ask if the parts are for my S-10 or my dad's suburban though, because we go there for lower prices on Chevy parts...

Mu husband worked for AutoZone corporate years ago and in their company magazine you would read tons of letters from customers complimenting Autozone employees for "good deeds" like installing windshiled whippers for old laides out in the rain while they waited inside the store, it gave you a warm fuzzy feeling

I'm glad to hear they are still doing a decent job in your area 74stang2togo, be sure to complement the managers on a great job they'll apppreciate it. For those of you interested in trying out Autozone here's a link to their store locator AutoZone Store Locator

Hey Ron, sorry about that

They must be doing some work on the site. I kept getting errors earlier today, too...then it would work, then errors agiain I tried it just now it worked fine. Here is a link to their homepage maybe we'll have better luck there. I'll send them an email while I'm there and let them know about the problem.
