Default Insurance rates

Newbie here. Great forum! Just a question concerning perfromace mods.and insurance. I never had a performace car, although I have one ordered (see sig). Can my insurance rates increase (without speeding tickets) with performance mods. as in S/C? And if so how does my insurance company find out what mods. are on my car if I upgrade?

It does matter. If they find out you have a supercharger or nitrous on the car, they'll classify it modified for racing. I'm not sure how much the rate will go up though.

the moral of the story is, don't tell the insurance company.

If you dont tell the insurance company about your modifications, dont expect them to reimburse you for their loss in the event of an accident or if the car is stolen.

Later,
Jason

Uh oh. You have a valid point. I really don't want to call my insurance agent to find out because as soon as my car gets delivered I'm gonna have to get him to insure it and I don't want to tip him off. If I do modifiy, it will be way down the road until I can save some cash. Thanks for the reply.

Wow another good point. What have other done in the case of modified engines? How much of an increase in insurance costs? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Doesn't it go up if you want to cover any aftermarket parts by your insurance. For example:

Car is valued at $10k, you put $15k in mods on it, you wreck it, they give you a $10k insurance check.

Some insurance companies will let you cover aftermarket parts up to a certain limit, now this obviously will raise your premium, but you wouldn't lose a ton of money if it was wrecked.
