New Member Titles - Please Comment or Suggest Your Own Set
Currently all of our members with the except of mods and admin, receive the exact same member title which is simply "Member".
How about if we change this so that as member post count increases, members automatically graduate to better, more interesting member titles. If we were to implement this we need to come up with a set of member titles to assign as post count increases. The following is one set of "Member Titles" we have been considering:
What do you think? Do you like or have any suggestions for improvement? How about suggesting a set of "Member Titles" we could use instead? With enough feedback, perhaps we can then run a poll to vote on the most promising.
Looking forward to some creative ideas and suggestions from all of our members.

If we did this then newbie's would be posting just to get the post count up. I don't want any MORE unecessary posts. Why not just let us decide what to put in that spot?

Experience with other forums says that this isn't a good idea. Competition for titles gets to be a little out of hand. This forum gets enough activity without trying to generate posts that have no substance.
Thank you once again for your input and suggestions. As always, all are greatly appreciated! Here is our rationale behind what you bought up:

Yes I agree, that is a possibility but at the same time it would also serve as an incentive for new members to get more actively involved in our community from the get go. Our moderators have always been good at keeping on top of this and have no reason to think they will not continue to do so. If it becomes a problem we can always go back to our current setup where all member titles are simply "AFM Member". However our admin and mod team believe the advantages would far outway any potential negatives and would like to give it a try to see how it would work out. One way to discourage members from garage postings, just to increase post count would be to further space out the Member Titles so that it would require a much larger post count to move between members. Maybe like this:
Why not just let us decide what to put in that spot
We considered "customized" member titles but quickly ruled it out, based on our previous experience when we first launched AFM. The main problem with "customized" titles is where it only takes a few to abuse, it requires far to much effort to moderate. Been there, tried that and have no plans to go back.
Our feeling is that if we are to implement "Member Titles" it would have to be as a standardized set, in a format similar to those we outlined.
We really like the idea of "Member Titles" because it provides a nice way to recognize those members who have been participating and most active on our site. Would really like to see if we can come up with a way to implement it without encouraging the problems mentioned.
Would appreciate your suggestions as to what you think would make a good set of "Member Titles". How about it? Any takers or do you like those we proposed?

I agree with the title changes. Could change it from rookie to newbie though...
yes it will get people to post up more but that's what you want in a message forum. It won't bring about more trolls, and if they do come around...our handy dandy admin will take care of them.
we need more people to just post up...the same people will continue to post in the same places, I really don't think anyone's threads will get hijacked or anything bad like that.
Hey now I was raised on a farm but I am no Rancher so I could be mistaken with my terms BUT it seems like we ought to REALLY think in these terms for the assignment of rankings...
Just my opinion...
Foal
Colt
Pony
Bronco
Stallion
Anyways.... Something like this would be logical for a "Mustang" forum I think. Just find a rancher who knows the hierarchy to complete the rankings...

I like these, but switch the Bronco to Gelding.

I was thinking the same list, but somehow we need to work "Stud" into there too.

And !!!! Pcfrisch ... Gelding is one missing his nads !!!! no way I would put that one in there. Never a chance to be a Stallion or Stud !

i don't like the whole horse name thing though...might just be me...but...seems a lil...gayish!
I'm with yorchi, horse names seems a little over the top. All for jacka$$ though. I think the original set is good
enough, not spaced out too much. But if it's going to be apprentice, journyman I think master should be in there somewhere.

Yes, I knew that, I had a couple horses. Maybe the Gelding should be the ricers
