The answer is supply and demand............

In a free market economy, people get what people want.

Some people have a legit reason for an Excursion, or an F250 and up.

Florida has a liscense restriction for anything over a certain weight, like a commercial liscense.

Yes, there are jerks in all types of vehicles (I'm one when the need arises), even motorcycles, and there are lots of idiots on those that have no business riding.

I think the best answer is assigned lanes, and strict enforcement.

One of the idiots I passed on the RIGHT, only to be blasted with his brights. Yeah, he was just minding his business.....

Then, not 13 miles up the road, two trucks, both going under 70, next to each other. Ones passing, the other is in the right lane. They are doing less than 1 mile difference in speed. Tell me know, how long did it take the idiot to pass the other idiot who wouldn't adjust his speed to let the truck passing get in front?

Too damned long. I did my pull in front and slow down on BOTH of those guys. AND I ENJOYED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hoped like hell that one would be stupid enough to follow me when I got off the interstate for a confrontation.
Hello Mr. uneducated Florida high school dropout with three teeth driving a run down Freightliner too damned slow in the fast lane. Meet Mr's Smith, and Wesson!!!!!!!

No, to truckers nowadays, it's all just fun and games. I remember when truckers were the nice guys on the road. Those days are gone.

I blame the teamsters. It's all their fault. Damned unions.
Just so you know, truckers encounter a lot of crime out there. People try to break in on them while they are on sleeper berth or hi-jack their load when they get out to fuel up at night, steal their fuel while they are parked, etc. so they carry firearms for protection - usually a .357 Magnum or a .44 Magnum, quite often unregistered (which means use it, wipe the prints and drop it). In your confrontation scenario, it's most likely that there is going to be a semi driver and a Mustang driver shot that night. Also, whenever a semi driver is headed the same direction as some of his buddies, they will often stick pretty close together on the road for safety, to help each other if one of them has mechanical trouble, and just for the company. It probably doesn't happen as often in this age of cell phones, but it is not unheard of for four or more truckers to box in a car on an uncrowded road, force that car to pull over and stop (or be run over) and take care of a little business with the driver. CBs make it easy to organize this sort of response. Am I condoning such behavior? No. Does the type of driving by semis you described make me angry? Yes. Angry enough to get killed, go to prison, or worst of all, wreck my Mustang just to prove a point? Ummm...nah.

Yes, exactly why cb radios should be illegal to use while operating a moving vehicle, just like c-phones...

And it would piss truckers off!!!!!

I used to have a cb, and made a point to smack talk as many Good Buddy, lott lizard lovin, Mud Ducks as I could. It was great fun, aggravating truckers.....in my early days on the road.

And JB, as far as vehicle classes and retaking the driving test periodically...have you ever considered running for public office because you sure as hell have my vote.
It is doable, but would require overcoming lots of obstacles, mostly AARP and the auto industry. Most people cut from driving because of decreasing eyesight, reflexes, etc. would be older people, and that is a major percentage of the vote - especially as baby boomers get older. Lobbyists would push the idea that we were discriminating against the old (although I don't see how this is any different than 'discriminating' against some guy who just consumed a fifth of bourbon - impaired is impaired). Lobbyists would also present the (valid) question of how else is this ninety year old man who has no family going to get to the grocery store, get his medicine, etc.? We would definitely have to address the need for a strong public transit system, especially in rural areas, which needs to be done anyway (we have had instances in this area of old people calling an ambulance for a ride to the grocery store because they had no other way) - taxis aren't even available everywhere.

The car companies would get involved because of profit margins. If you have noticed the trend in vehicles on the road the last twenty to thirty years, there have been major shifts and the shifts are cyclic (gas mileage/pollution control in the early 70s, big cars in the late 70s, fuel economy in the early 80s - Toyotas were the rage with a big push to develop 'gasahol' - minivans in the late 80s, fuel economy and performance in the early 90s - including a big push to develop hybrid cars, biodeisel, etc., SUVs in the late 90s, and in the mid 2000s, fuel economy and performance - including a big push to develop hybrid cars, biodeisel, blah, blah, blah). Gas prices will go up and economy-minded cars, small cars, will be pushed. Gas prices go down and SUVs and big trucks become popular. The sheeple (that really is a good term - I'm stealing it) will run out and buy whatever they are told is best this year. This helps car companies sell new cars by ensuring that all the used SUVs will be older and probably worn out by the next time they become popular, and likewise with more economical cars (makes me believe car companies have more than a little to do with the rise and fall of gas prices rather than just responding to them). Making it harder for people to switch from a Neon to a Durango would impact these trends - especially on the front end. The car companies would back lobbyists and campaigns to 'stop big government from interfering with your right to decide what you are going to drive'. But thanks for the vote.

I'm Marine Corps (no longer active), always shot expert, carry, have a permit, and shoot weekly. He can Bring it.

For the record, I would NEVER pull a gun on ANYONE, unless my life was threatened. My confrontation would've been a verbal "____ ___!!!!!!!!"

Those two were being jerks, intentionally. There is no excuse for them.
If the one guy was governed at 70, why block everyone else to pass someone doing 69.7. He didn't have to pull in front of me. He could've waited till I passed. The first trucker didn't have to ride slow in the left lane, and then bright people that passed him.

Now, you can stick up for the ashholish truckers all you want, I'm done with this thread. If I wanted to have an online argument, I'd seek out one of the fools I've on my ignore list.

Jerks are in all types of vehicles. Truckers do not own the roads. I don't either. If someone out of the blue walks by and sticks his leg out to trip you, would you not break his knee for him? Certain actions demand retribution. I'm happy to give it in my small way.

Geez, and I wasn't even arguing. I certainly wasn't 'sticking up' for the truckers - it makes my blood pressure go through the roof when that same situation happens to me - which is just about a daily event around here. Just trying to make JEB aware of a potentially dangerous situation because I don't want him to get hurt. Or his Stang (nice color, by the way).

[Sarcasm] Maybe he's right. Maybe I should start carrying my SKS in my Mustang. I can load it up with Russian military steel-core rounds and won't even have to roll down my window - I can shoot through my roof, the semi door and still get the driver. Yeah, killing someone on the Interstate for slowing me down would really gain support for Americans to continue to have the right to keep and bear arms. Just for good measure, maybe I should carry my Ruger 9mm in case the guy's got any kids and my .32 auto - loaded up with Glasers - to take care of his dog![End sarcasm]

Now I'm arguing.

Which is why I said I'd never pull a gun...........unless I had to.
And, I would never shoot someone's dog. I don't shoot animals that I'm not gonna eat.

The finger gets my point across without going there.

I thought you were trying to defend the truckers...sorry.

I love my sks, new from China, never fired till I got it...
Best $87.00 ever spent.
Oh, and truckers still suck.

No prob. My SKS is Chinese, too. Not new, though. My mom actually bought it - for herself. She just thought it would be fun to shoot, but decided it was too loud for her and gave it to me. I'm with you on not shooting animals I'm not going to eat. Except coyotes. Those things are becoming a real nuisance where I live. I have seen them right up next to our house and I worry about our pets, not to mention rabid animals, etc. There is a reason there is year-round open season and no bag limit on those! (kscoyote, if you read this, sorry!)

Yeah, I thought about the fact that I drive a guzzler. (I could probably make a prius get 15 MPG) However, I don't obstruct the visibility of others, have my headlights blaring directly in others' eyes, (h.i.d.s suck) nor do I have to go way slow around turns. I could argue about the lesser potential of my mass, versus an suv's, but I guess my velocity capabilities might somewhat null that. My car does complete my image - that of a complete dirtbag. I do feel like a wussy in other cars. Still, I feel that if I behave, my car and driving are a much lesser intrusion on other motorists, than the stereotypical candy@$$ in the suv, distracted by their selfphone and five dollar a cup coffee. And if it weren't for them, the only gas guzzling V8s running around, would be people like us, and people who really need their trucks. It's probably a drop in the bucket, but truck popularity might amount to a significant portion of the U.S. demand for gasoline, I don't know.
The only gripes I have with the bigrigs, are the slow passes - I hate that, and that many of them fail to keep a steady speed, even on level, mostly open road.
The golden rule of the road sould be to try to stay out of others' way. You don't want to have to cause others to hit their brakes (and then have to speed up) - it costs them money. That is the reason I always defer to cars, as a pedestrian (which I will be in a few minutes). They're gonna cost me less time, proportionally, than I would cost them.
I have to credit Eric Huffschmidt with the term "sheeple".

Selfphone is my creation. Eric Huffschmidt is a somewhat antigovernment type guy with a website. I don't remember the address - it's in my old 'puter, but you could probably google him, or the term "sheeple". Although, I would label him a bit extreme, there is an eye opening aspect to his message. I heard of him on Art Bell's show.
Closing time looms; 2:45 remaining.

I dont feel that pulling back in front of them and slowing down to maybe 5 miles or so slower than they were going is that dangerous. I never said I come to a stop, or slam brakes or anything like that.

If you don't like it, call your congressman and get a law passed.

I don't usually get involved in these types of discussions, but I couldn't help myself this time. Please note that the following is just my humble, humble opinion.

My usual retort is to get in front of them and drive 10 or 15 under the speed limit, let them start to pass, hit the gas, get in front again and slow down again. I do it 2-3 times then go about my business, just enough to piss them off.
You, sir, should have your license taken away. That kind of behavior is uncalled for, wreckless, and completely moronic. You are just as dangerous, if not more so, than those truckers are. Your vehicle is more capable of evasive maneuvers than a semi is. It's easier for you to speed up/slow down/move out of the way/ect. if a semi cuts you off than it is for a semi if some moron cuts them off. And please, you're getting your knickers in a bunch because a few semis have cut you off? Big freakin' deal. Join the club. You're one person out of a few million who has been cut off by some type of vehicle. Don't feel too special. We all run into moronic drivers, but it doesn't give any of us the right to act in such a manner as to put other peoples' lives in danger (which is, incase you didn't realize, what you are doing).

5 mph slower than them is far from 10-15 under the speedlimit.

Maybe I'm out of line, maybe I'm over-reacting...but I'm sorry, people, taking the "law" into your own hands because you've been cut off or you run into some morons on the road a few times just takes the cake.

I'm sure you don't care what I think, but that's fine, I just had to say something. Good luck with your life, man.

You know, you are right.

I'll behave from now on.

This is like when Austinscobra (gasp) admitted to , dare I say, street racing!!!!!!! Oh dear, oh dear, not that!!!!!

I tried to leave this thread alone. But some clowns feel the need to come down on me from on high. I have trouble believing that the high and mighty here don't play games as well. Go ahead and try to act above everything. Act like ya'll don't street race (a little), hit the gas (a little)when a jerk driver tries to pass you on the right in heavy traffic, doesn't use their turn signal, whatever.

I'm sure everyone else here has never done something or anything to stick it to the man. It's all a bunch of innocents here, and then there's me. The reckless maniac road rager that aggressively hands out justice in the form of doing onto others what they did to me.

You make it sound like I go out looking for shizzle to start, not the case. I have games that I love to play when people (esp. truckers) cut me off.
I don't go cutting off people to do it. If traffic is too bad, I don't go out of my way get them back, endangering everybody else on the road.

Whatever. If it makes you feel better to bash me, I don't care.

Truckers still are the most inconsiderate drivers on the road.
