Mustangs in the 'islands' We just got back into town from a cruise with ports of call in Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Martin/St. Marteen. In Nassau, we pretty much walked to the shopping district and back to the ship, so I didn't have too much opportunity to see what kind of cars they had. From what I saw, the mix there was about like it is here except there were, possibly, more Kias represented there.
On the other two islands, we took tours. That gave me more of a chance to see what kinds of cars were on the road. Yes, I was in a tropical 'paradise' and was looking to see what kind of cars they drove as much as I was looking at the scenery. Kind of sad, I guess.
From what I saw on St. Thomas (being one of the U.S. Virgin Islands) there was an even higher percentage of American cars than we see here. More specifically, there were many more Fords than I see here. I think I saw more Fords than all other makes combined - a lot of them were Escapes, Explorers, etc. I also saw a couple of nice Mustangs - one red 94-98 GT that sounded NICE, one 94-98 yellow GT (nice to see yellows represented - was in a parking lot, don't know how it sounded) and one black 99-04 (parked at a house).
St. Martin (Dutch side) and St. Marteen (French side) had very few American models although I did see a couple of Fords and Chevys. I think I only saw one Mustang there. It was a silver 05-06 (a V6, I think) and it was on a dealer lot. There were loads of Hyundais (mostly some tiny little model I have never heard of). There were also plenty of Suburus and other Japanese makes (didn't see many Hondas, though). Of course, on the French side I saw a few Renaults. I also saw one or two Daihautsus and a couple of makes I had never heard of. There were also several strange little vehicles (similar looking but from various manufacturers) that looked like a minivan but were about half as long. Funny thing was there were a few Hummers mixed in - they looked even bigger compared to the diminutive automobiles around them.
