Default Any opinion on using Hood Pins on Fibreglass Hoods?

You guys that have a fiberglass hood.

I am getting a Steeda/Boss fiberglass hood.

I would like your opions on the question of using hood pins?

I say yes. I had hood pins holding my fiberglass Mach 1 hood down on my 89 GT. Mine were the locking kind, I did not have a hood latch installed so thats why I had them. They look cool too.

I have hood pins holding my fiberglass Mach 1 hood down on my 88 GT. I have them because my hood latch failed on my OEM hood at 55mph, lucky I survived and did dot wreck or damage my car other then the hood. I say YES do it!

Default Glass hoods

Since our cars come with oe fiberglass hoods, it really depends on the quality of the replacement hood and a good installation. First tier manufacturers make hoods that are at least as good as the oe version, and will do just fine so long as its properly installed.

Cheaper hoods that don't have a good latch point (should be made of metal, not fiberglass or plastic), are best supported with pins. (The manufacturer will usually send you a note with the hood advising that you add pins - this is to avoid lawsuits when your hood flies off).

If you have ANY DOUBT, add the pins.

I bought a glass hood .
It was supposed to use the factory latch .
It didn't .
I got good stainless steel ones .
Stay away from cheap ones , they'll rust fast .
