Hey, all! Not sure if this is a no-no to post this, but I'm sort of searching for a '76 Cobra (not searching too hard, but if I could find one for decent price in easily restorable condition, I might be interested). If anyone has seen one, or knows where I might look (preferably in the Ohio area or surrounding states), please let me know.
My Dad bought a black one with gold stripes brand new in 1976 - my Mom still has the original window sticker. Anyway, he put 500 or so miles on it and parked it. One day my Mom's 70 Chevelle wouldn't start, so she took the Cobra. The rest was history. The Chevelle was gone and the Cobra was her driver. At some point, Dad got a wild hair and bought Mom a 4x4 GMC Jimmy...so the Cobra had to go. Lately the Cobra has been brought up several times, so I thought I'd keep an eye out for one. Also, anyone know how hard/easy it would be to find parts?? I've never been too interested in the 70's models, but there is some sentimental value involved here...

Engine parts are easy, interior parts are hard, some of the urethane can be hard, as well..
Best place to find consistent numbers is e-bay.

Why not post one or more wanted ads in our classifieds section. It has worked well for alot of our members and the ads get a very good placement within the search engines. There is no charge to members to place ads so why not give it a try and see how it works out.
Cheers,

Wow! When did that come online?

Finding the car itself won't be the hard part, finding replacement parts will be. A lot of pieces (the Cobra air dam and spoiler, for instance) are hard to find in good shape when they show up at all (though there are occaisional Ebay listings for them) if the car you end up buying needs an engine or tranny or has a 4-cyl or V6 and you want to swap in a V8 (there were 2.3 and 2.8 Cobra IIs), you're getting into serious money for the V8 specific parts if you want to keep it original (Oil pan, exhaust manifolds, motor mounts, frame mounts, bellhousing, flywheel/flexplate are all very hard to find, and usually very expensive, as the number of available pieces drops daily since nobody is producing any of them anymore, I paid $150 for a USED set of Mustang II V8 motor mounts and frame mounts on Ebay (That's actually cheap, the last Ford dealership that showed to have any of the motor mounts in stock wanted $115 for the left one and $125 for the right one, but they couldn't actually find the right one in their stock!), and $35 for a set of the exhaust manifolds (and those are the cheapest I've found on Ebay in a long time!)
Just keep an eye out on Ebay and Craig's List and try to find a running/driving '76 Cobra II that needs just paint and some interior work and you should be able to get it for the whopping sum of $500-2500.

If your heart's not totally set on a '76, there are two on Ebay right now (One is a Cobra II, the other is a hatchback, meaning that building a Cobra II clone out of it isn't hard at all.) that are right there in Ohio, I want both pretty bad, (especially the black one with the cowl hood, that's not original, but it's well done) but I'd have to sell my GT 'vert by some miracle first! lol.
