I hear the european version is a couple hundred pounds lighter too. I know they are modding these cars with TRD parts, since it has a toyota powertrain. with being under 2000 lbs and almost 250 hp, it must be a screamer.

Is that data right, a Focus weighs 2750 lbs? Man that's a heavy little booger. My Saleen is not much heavier than that.
Don't know, but by the time you pack all the required safety equipment, emissions controls, and the 'luxury' equipment that people have come to expect, etc. it is apparently pretty hard to build a 'light' car for sale in the United States anymore. Even compact, economy cars built now seem to be heavy. That is also, apparently, why a car built for Europe can go so much faster than one built for the States - they don't have the same laws that add equipment, and weight, to a car (you probably know all that already). I'd be interested to see what a regular old Mustang GT could do on, say, the Autobahn if all the 'extra' stuff required here were removed to lighten the car up and the engine didn't have to be detuned to meet other regulations, insurance purposes or whatever.
The Lotus Elise is a bad little car. Powered by a 1.8 liter toyota motor. It produses 190 hp with 138 ftlbs torque. The car weighs in at less than a ton, suspension and braking are all derived from the race track. No power steering. They are some nice little cars. when I lived in Kennesaw there was a guy who had one, I got to look it over, very impresive. I wouldnt mind having one. Probably will in a few years.
