Ok so I recently bought a v6 mustang, my parents wouldnt let me get a GT becuase im under their insurance. It's a 98, with 26,000 miles on it, after driving it for a few weeks im starting to get the itch for more power. Two days ago I got true dual exhaust with 40 series flowmasters. I know its only a v6, but there still not that loud at all. Any way, does any one have any experience on modding/fixing up a v6? Is it worth it?
I've talked to my friends about it and every one thinks I should just save up and buy a GT once I go to college ( senior next year, so 2 years from now). What do yall think? Work on the 6-banger or just save up?

depends on your goals and budget.
What's your goal, and what's your budget?

Goal: A car that sticks out, and can destroy other v6s (camaros, mustangs, ford pintos, whatever).
Budget: I'm 17, making about $200 a week lol... so yea... i have $2,000 right now though, but that could be a good investment towards a v8... idk what do you think?
You may not want to hear this but if your going to college next year you need to be saving money and not worring about ther car. Its a nice car like it is. Help your folks out with the cost of your education and be patient with the car. Your time will come and after school you will have more time and cash to do it right. Be patient...hard to do I know but you'll be better off in the long run.
i agree with preacher. its no fun but id drive it the way it is at college(if you go)and wait till later to mod it or buy a new GT in the future. besides, that V6 will save you more in gas money which can be spent on women and beer!
Got to agree with the trend here - enjoy the paid for V6 and keep it clean and dent free.
Do well in school and in college. You will enjoy the benefits of finishing your High School years with some coin in your pocket to party. That is better than sitting in the driveway listening to the mufflers and looking at the add-ons - while your friends are going out. Be happy with the car, take pictures of it - you will want them later.

then you're going to have to pay for the gas and insurance on a v8, and at 17, that can be punishing -especially at $200 a week -One week alone is pretty much going to go to insurance.

A car that sticks out in what way? (Pintos had 4 cylinders).

Yep.
All the guys who went for the hottest, newest car in H.S. are still driving them now -but they're junkers.
Get the education, as stuff breaks, spend a little extra to upgrade. Ask for something special on birthdays and christmas, do most of the work yourself, and you'll have a nice enjoyable car.
If you mod, do work that will increase your mpg AND power, like a CAI (Great b'day present) underdrive pulleys (Great Christmas present), split port head and intake swap (40 hp for $320+ shipping) etc. before you know it, you'll beat most v6s, and when you're out of college, you can either go all out or get a new car.
I picked up a 1968 Ford Mustang for $1750, insurance, tags, etc., were cheap because the car was so old, -Did some work on it every now and then, and upgraded whenever anything went wrong.
My junior year in college, I was offered $12,000 for it. It was a great car, and I had a lot of fun in it until thieves and hit and run drivers destroyed it . ..

Alright thanks guys, and yes im going to college (unnegotiable with my parents). But yea i guess yall are right, just start saving up the money and take it to college. For christmas im going to get cold air intake, and im going to put a sytem in it by my self. I guess I'll be done after that. But just think, 5 years from now I'll have a brand new car

A nice (not over the top, but nice) system, keep it shined up and clean inside and I think you will enjoy the car. Sure, you'll know it's not a V8 and it won't have the 'get up and go', but you'll also know that you are working toward a V8, among other things. As someone else said, save as much money as you can, spend the extra to have fun and keep the car nice enough that you can impress your dates (the good news is, many of the ladies on AFM excluded, lots of women don't know or care much about the difference in a V6 or V8.)
I think a cheap mod would be a Nitrous Oxide system. The V6 can take 100-125 shot, and with the right instal you can put a window switch so you wont blow it up. I remember this guy who had an Acura Intergra GSR, ended up putting a 150 shot (i think those motors had forged internals) and use to smoke almost anything he ran againts. That V6 could be in the 13's easy.

I also meant to say that college can be expensive even aside from tuition. Books can cost a few hundred dollars per semester. You will still need other supplies and will eventually want things like a college ring, etc. Also, it is a good idea to have $$$ put back to maintain and repair whatever car you are driving, be it a V6, V8 or whatever. Finally, when you get into your upper level classes (300 and 400 level) and start preparing for graduation and what you are going to do after, you may want or need to work less and concentrate on studying more. It's nice to have enough money put back to be able to do that (I say that from experience).
My parents wanted me to go to college, but no one had to 'push' me into it. The year I took off from school after high school and worked fulltime at the grocery store where I had worked in h.s. (as a dairy manager, often working 45 to 50 hours a week for a salary that wasn't much higher than what I made as a 'bag-boy') was all the convincing I needed.
