I know quite a bit of people in Holland that have done better than me moneywise wanting to buy the new Mustang or Challenger but don't have a good word to say about my '67.
"To loud, to smelly, to Spartan, to......." etc.
These cars are now competing in some layers with cars like the Chrysler 300 or Mercedes S Class, as a freaking business car, something "different" to make the secretary go wild.
Goes to show who SOME of the people buying them are.
Don't get me wrong, if I had money to spare I might get the new Mustang or Challenger, but things like a DVD screen in a "muscle" car?
Never.

in my opinion, for should revert back to ye olden days and make the mercury cougar the more luxurious, refined, version of the mustang, and/or make a stripped down(sound deadening material gone, no radio or not a high quality one, and no non-performance options) revert back to the raw, unrefined, rough around the edges drag pack style mustang, msybe just as an option, for the true enthusiasts. of course, theyd have to keep the mandatory safety equipment.
Was anyone here making their decision to buy a new mustang based on the weight of the car? I did look at the spec sheet and noticed the curb weight (2007 Mustang V-6 Convertible, curb weight (lbs) 3,351) didn't appear to be extremly heavy to me but it wasn't a consideration to purchase the car. I know a lot of things are considered when looking at automobiles, however, I don't think the weight of the car is a determining factor for most people when making their choice. Back in the "good ole days" as they are often refered to you could chose a lot of options on an automobile that would add weight and cost to the price of the car, nowdays most of those things come as standard equipment. Car companys build what sells or at least they hope to, if they get feedback from dealers and weight is a major factor, I'm sure they'll adjust for what the majority of the public is looking for.

The weight of a car effects the handling characteristics, the gas mileage, and the overall performance of a car. This is especially important to anyone who plans to race the car.
But, no, the weight didn't enter into my decision to buy a S197 Mustang, but I just drive it on the street. I don't plan to race it.
My S197 Mustang is a bit heavy, but it is the first Mustang that my wife likes to ride in. She likes the comfort of the passenger seat. He loves those A/C vents (she closes them).

that was kinda my point, most people don't spend $25,000 to $35,000 on a NEW automobile to race their daily driver

Race cars don't have a passenger seat or carpet either.
My vert is heavy. Makes the tires stick to the road.
Actually you bring up a good point, when I bought my car I drive the coupe and the vert. The coupe was a little faster on the take off, but the vert handled a little better on the road. That and Chicks dig verts.

A new GT500 weighs 3920 and a new Mustang GT weighs 3450?
So I figure the 5.4 can't be more than 150 lb heavier then the 4.6, and the SC adds about 75 lbs. So there must be an extra 245 lb of "Options"? hmmmmmm
I just decided to get 30K the Mustang GT and throw a KB supercharger on it. I saved 400 lb, $40k and make more hp than a stock GT500. ... But .... Given an oportunity, I'd still love to get my hands on a 750 hp Supersnake. Even if it is a 4000 lb, you can't tell me that isn't a muscle car!
Speaking of heavy muscle cars, what about the old Chrysler Hemi's (GTX, Chargers, Road Runners), the GTO's, 455 trans ams,
etc, etc ..... They were all heavy and sometimes huge in comparison, and frankly don't handle nearly as good as the newer cars. But they are all still muscle cars .... and very cool in my book.
