Default Convertible through car wash

Does anyone have an opinion about putting a convertible through a regular automatic car wash? One of the local car wash companies offers a special hand wash that they do on convertibles for an extra fee, but sometimes it would be handy to just take the car though the car wash at the gas station, especially to get a good under carriage cleaning.

I don't. I don't remember who, but someone told me the soap isn't the greatest for the top. If I'm in a hurry I do the bays where you wash it yourself and just rinse the top.

I'm with threeravyn, I don't either. My top's worn-out enough from just doing the self-serve bay thing (I take a bottle of Mothers convertible top cleaner with me if I go there, I actually wash it at home with the Mr. Clean Autodry kit most of the time, works better.)

Do not do it! Either pay the extra few bucks for the hand wash or do it yurself. Your owner's manual warns about using high pressure washes or mechanical washes as the could do serious damage to the top. Also as mentioned previously, soap is realy bad on the top. I'd rather pay the extra few bucks than pay $1500 if it destroys the top.

Actually soap is not bad for the top as long as it is a mild detergent. You need to wash the top with a mild soap to remove contaminants that get on the top. They will cause damage if not removed. I would be really worried about any powered brushes hitting the top or even the paint for that matter. You really need to wash the car by hand.
