If you go to Sea World, pay for the Dine With Shamu, not only was there free beer (Michaloeb Amber Boch) but you also get up close and personal, this is no zoom...
Don’t they have the tank where you can walk under the water because there is a tube that runs through the aquarium? Wonder how far “deep” you are?

The word 'awesome' is over-used, but that picture of the whales is awesome in the truest, most traditional sense of the word. Must have been doubly so to have actually been there.
Your nine year old will remember that day for the rest of her life. Don't be surprised if your 10 month old has vague recollections, too. I have never been to SeaWorld, but there was a place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee when I was just a kid called Porpoise Island. It was nothing compared to SeaWorld, but it was still pretty neat. I remember a chicken that played basketball for treats, a parrot that played a miniature piano and a petting zoo. I remember how friendly all the animals were (which, as an adult, leads me to believe they were well-treated.) The main attraction, of course, were the performing porpoises. I remember sitting in the front row for their performance (and getting splashed) and then getting to pet a couple of those intelligent, gentle creatures after the show. Thing is, I'm 35 and the place closed several years ago. I don't remember for sure how young I was. I do remember that I was walking on my own - I think I was maybe four, but I'm not sure. Maybe the best part was that my grandmother - the one who recently died - was with us that day. I remember her laughing. Wow, I had let that memory slip to some dusty corner of my mind. Thanks, Twister - I needed that.

thanks, it was just perfect timing and a great seat. our 4th grader is there for a week, so, she will always remember. As for the baby, she might be like me and remember a few odd things, but I doubt it.
Funny how things spark old memories, and how much they mean to use. I was sad to realize that the ray tank was the pearl divers exhibit when I was 9....(last time that I was there)
My family used to go to the Sea World in San Antonio every year... I outgrew it before too long, but my memories of the first 2-3 times are the greatest.

I went to seaworld in orlando when I was younger. We bought fish to feed the dolphins and shrimp to feed the rays, that part felt weird man! they just swim over your hand and its gone. But the dolphins were cool. My dad pissed one off when he was making it come out of the water. It was almost balancing on its tail when a segull flew by and grabbed the fish out of his hand. That was damn funny,

I've still got an "I Petted a Porpoise at Porpoise Island" sticker somewhere. The thing I remember about it was the luau show. I was about 11 or 12 and I can still remember saying to myself, "I've gotta marry me a Polynesian woman." while watching that show. I also remember the bird show.
SeaWorld is a great place, but the last time we went to the one in Orlando I wound up riding Kracken. Great roller coaster! I forgot how sensitive I am to motion since I hit 40 and had to go sit in the penguin house for about 30 minutes to get cooled off and let my stomach settle. It sucks to get old.
