Just like the thread title says. 8 years and I'm done with my Naval service. I started terminal leave yesterday. I don't have to go back to sign my DD214, they're mailing it to my home of record. I've worn my uniform for the last time and driven off base for the last time. It's kinda odd. Effectively I'm a civilian again, but I don't think it's sunk in completely. 8 years, 2 months to the day. I've matured a lot, learned a lot. I went a lot of places I never would have been had I not joined the Navy. I was back in the Arabian Gulf 36 hours after the Twin Towers fell. My ship launched the first air strikes on Afghanistan. We came home to a hero's welcome at the end of that deployment. I can't say that I'll miss the Navy itself. I already miss many of the people that I served with though. Quite a cast of characters indeed.

Welcome back. Good luck with the land legs. I'm sure you'll miss all of the high powered weaponry. Now you can concentrate on 4 wheeled ordinances...

Congratulations. With all the changes currently taking place in your life, you really do have a chance to become 'a new man' now. Just be sure you keep all the best aspects of the man you have been. I look forward to hearing more about your upcoming, ongoing readjustment to civilian life - especially the coming, new (for you) Mustang build-up. Good luck!

Thank you for your service. My family always keeps our our men and ladies in our Armed Forces in our thoughts. But the best news is....now you'll have more time to enjoy your Mustang!

Staying in pretty much the same line of work, Engineering and Power generation. Just getting paid a lot more, the schedule is better and no deployments.
