A lot of things change after 5 years, including my opinion of this site
I registered here after the MM&FF profile of this site, they called it a “ultra moderated site”
Back then nothing got buy but they had no major problem because the community knew what was expected. Then a bunch of the moderators got fired for various reasons one being the break down of what was supposed to be their job when they were participating in flaming. The site has never recovered, ever since then their has been a lack of moderators and this has lead to a total change in the community.
Now the new system has gotten rid of the “report this post to a moderator” so the already strapped moderators have to personally read everything or respond to PMs sent.
The problem is further complicated by the closing of threads rather then moderate them, the AUP says
“Slander, bashing, flaming, name calling or harrassment of any kind, will NOT be tolerated under any circumstance. Members must show respect for other members of our community at all times. Any posts not in compliance with this rule will be promptly deleted or edited to remove offensive content. “
Problem is it seem the current moderators don’t know the AUP they are suppose to be enforcing. They will delete some people (vary rarely) but not others. What does consistently get deleted is entire threads that question the moderators actions, guess they don’t like these things out there for people to read.
One of these deleted threads had the good suggestion to take things to PMs, well I recently tried this and did not receive a PM back from the two mods I sent a PM to, although one did jump into the thread to say clam down but had to add their own little flame that had to be misspelled to get it through the filters.
But others do moderate by going into threads that are perfectly fine and give warnings about we better not be condescending or else….this same mod calls his buddies “Sonuvabitch” and “Bitchez” when someone who is not a mod says this behavior is just buddies being guys a different mods says its flaming and wont be tolerated or els…….And god forbid a mod misreads a post……..
A long while back there was a call from the administration for people to volunteer to be mods, I considered it but because I actively participate in the debates I didn’t volunteer because I thought it would be a conflict of interest. Others don’t seem to have a problem with actively participate, then close a thread because it was not properly moderated.
Again a lack of moderators seems to be the biggest problem, the next seems to be who is moderating the moderators? No one from the looks of it. I don’t personally dislike any of the moderators, but it seem they are understaffed and undertrained.
I have not posted very much in a while (and several juicy threads have come up that are to my liking) mainly because this site is a community made up of individuals. Problems have arisen because the moderators are trying to gain some control back from the complete lack of enforcing the rules, and in doing so they have been quite selective of what they do and what they don’t….there is absolutely no consistency in what they do.
I’m not saying I am quitting the site, I just have no urge to participate in the forums right now. Over the years I have met a lot of friends and made some good memories.
Kscoyote you a great guy for a liberal, I’ll miss our daily bantering if I make it up to Omaha again well have to have that cup of coffee……and I’ll leave my fork at home! And for the record No Topic was not specifically started foe you, it was because I was tired of the mods trying to close the debates by using the “off topic” clause they so often threw out, but if it makes you feel better “its all for you buddy!”
Mustang Mike – wish you were still around things really died around here when you left.
I’ll also miss

I understand completely.I have enjoyed your posts and I will miss them. I will go a bit further and say though that its not the site, KJcinci, so money, and gtraptor are great moderators. There is only one that has a power problem.Thats the one that picks and chooses which post or which person to delete or edit. I was edited by this bluefellow for simply disagreeing with him. I made sure to reread the allfordmustang policy and I did nothing wrong. Here is a perfect example: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...t=67019&page=3
Why not answer twisters question? Because he can simply close the thread or edit it. This has been a good discussion and as Bluestreak said to me in a private message, "If you want to be wished into the cornfield that can be arranged." Hopefully I have the pleasure of reading your posts again county.Take care.
You'll be missed

That is just one of the threads I was hinting at….one that was closed before I even had a chance to jump into before it was closed, it was also debated several times over the years without having to be locked. Although I didn’t want this to boil down to a flame of any one moderator, Blue is a good guy and should not be flamed, but he is way over stretched and although I think there are some things that he and others do is wrong, the problems behind it, understaffed and undertrained (with this I mean no consistence) is the root of the problem.
And again I’m saying I’m leaving I’m just saying I fell no need to contribute to the site under this current situation.
Nghtrnnr we are a perfect example of people who totally disagree but havent got cross with each other…try not to kill anyone for me OK!

Damm, now who will I joke with doughnuts about??????
Peace brother, keep your up on the state of your vest, lots of good people die b/c of neglected body armor.
BTW, I've gotten po'd at other forums I frequent. The burn eventually goes away. I hope you'll be back when it does.
Ignore buttons go a long way toward keeping people happy, but I see your issue is with management, not content.

County, I'd appreciate it if you'd still keep reading the site if you have time. Losing folks like you is tantamount to a brain drain - real data to help sort out us amateurs!
At least check in from time to time and pick up a PM - I'm going to be making some gun purchases, and you were going to be a brain I wanted to pick!
You might also notice that they just added SoMoney as a mod, which should help a bit.
Besides, look around - with the Dems running Congress, and Bush trying to work with them (talk about strange bedfellows) - there'll be more juicy debate than ever!
Regardless, thanks for all you've done!

I have not been around forever but I too have seen issues. In fact those issues were the reason I took a break and stepped away from the forums for a while. So I understand where you are coming from.

Thanks to all for all your comments, but just remember one thing, most of the moderators are trying to help, but it is not easy to teach them "good judgement".
Even i have made a few mistakes, and i have been moderating forums for a VERY VERY long time.
Threads are like reading the bible, dont beleive everything, keep an open mind, and dont read between the lines. It is hard to judge someones intention when it is in written form, we humans need facial and body expresion to be able to more less know what the other means.
Thats the problem of moderating a forum, you are the judge but also being judged. You have to be flexible and at the same time try to make people stick with the forum rules.
Cant make everyone happy, that is for sure.
Regards to the mods being undertrained, well, i agree and dont, moderation is not all about rules, it is about common sense, good judgement, good manners and many many things we really cant teach. It takes practice, a good "ear" and lots of comunication.
WE at AFM have tried our best to make of this site a "family" site, thats why our rules are strict. Go to most of the big forums and all you see are fights, smart a** remarks and little if any good content. That sure can draw crowds, but we are here to draw true enthusiasts.
We will try to improve our mods, that is for sure.
CM; Never got the pleasure of 'meeting' you but you seem like a great guy who will be missed! I don't know what went wrong but I am sorry for it.
It is sometimes hard to moderate, especially if I have an interest and/or opinion in the subject. Sometimes things get overheated and some editing is needed, and maybe a PM (I wish we still had the warning system!) I try very hard not to edit the content of any text, especially if it is 'against' me, my opinion, or information I have left! In addition I have only banned trolls and way overly agressive people, I don't think I have ever banned a Mustang enthusiast...?!!? Which is pretty good for a Mustang site mod I'd say...
I hope we'll keep on seeing you in our forums and that your moderators will keep it moderated without interfering!
Regards,
