Well then, you had better make sure you don't jump the track or it will go on your permanent record.

Man, being a Production Engineer I know exactly what you mean. I am expected to contro a lot of things around here, but I have no authority to do anythign to anyone who does not follow the instructions and guidlines I set forth. I knew exactly what it meant when I was reading it.

Funny, I have all the authority around here, and don't want it. I DON'T CARE IF THE BATHROOM IS DIRTY, I DON'T CARE IF AN EMPLOYEE QUIT, I DON'T CARE IF ONE OF OUR TRUCKS IS BROKEN DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, I DON'T CARE IF THE ROOF IS LEAKING, I DON'T CARE IF THE BURGLAR ALARM IS GOING OFF AT 2:00AM IN THE MORNING!!!!!!! Be careful what you guys ask for......

Well i'm not saying that having the authority is a bad thing "IF" the people under you actually listen to what you say and give a damn about just a little bit of what they are doing. But my people would prefer to throw their hands in the air and say f@%k it instead of taking care of the issue that comes up. Either that or they want me to handle the problem because they don't want the hassle, thats why I make the big bucks is the big joke around here.. I don't think its to funny though , and it sure isn't enough bucks for the crap I deal with.. I know I'm pissing and moaning aren't I.

People do that all the time. That's human nature..... It is mostly an ethic that was put into place years ago. Ethical behavior and more or less giving a $hit has long since passed our generation. It is the "all for me attitude" that is prevalent now.

Well damn you hit that right on the head. But as managment your supposed to care no matter what and if you don't
care about something then there is something major wrong with you. Then its put on you record ..

No, I care, but it's always the same story. How many people can tell me that they can do my job, but when it comes to the littlest decision, they point the finger this way. How many times do you have to tell someone the same thing. "Hello Meatball, didn't I tell you that last week too?"

All I am saying is that they ask me to control such situation, but give me no authority to hold anyoen responsible for creating or ignoring the situation.

Its hard to take care of responsibilities when you have no authority to inforce policies that you set forth.

How about when the policies are put in place but as soon as you try to enforce them upper managment pulls the rug from under you underminds the authority they say you have and basicly make it so you have now power whatsoever . Anytime I try to enforce a policy my people basicly laugh at me. They know all they have to do is whine loud enough to upper management and they will get there way. And tell them to do something???

Isn't it forbidden to hurt someones feelings by telling them to do something.

Paper trail! I document everything on paper or electronically because if it isn't written down somewhere it doesn't exist. It's hard for upper management (or anybody) to go against a policy when you can PROVE that they themselves implemented and charged you with enforcing on their behalf.
