i'm so excited.. i just saw (and touched!) what i consider to be one of the most beautiful cars being made today. the coveted GT500.. a marvel of Shelby and SVT ingenuity.
so i was on my way to the local ford dealership to see how much it would be to order some hood/side scoops for my 00' (about $200 a piece btw) when, as i was pulling up to park in front of the showroom, a strangely familiar peripheral sight caught my eye. the offset cobra badge on the grille was the first thing to give it away. this was no ordinary 05-up mustang. when i walked into the dealership, i was in disbelief. no way. "this is the real deal, a GT500.." the lines were amazing... the front fascia, slanted headlights, hood vents, Goodyear F1s, ducktail wing, and air diffuser style rear bumper.. breathtaking.. and all in black. one word: sexy.
the hood was popped, exposing the huge 5.4 and the roots style blower.. the first time i had seen a supercharger in person. i looked at the car up and down.. black leather interior with the works. manufacturer price? bout 40k. dealership price? 62k. and, according to the all knowing salesperson, "they've already made all they're gonna make".. ha. can you say manipulation of the law of supply and demand?
oh well.. its a stunning car no matter the cost.. ill have to find the camera and go back to snap some pictures for you guys. i think i have a new dream car.. i'll have to scrounge up a few 10 thousand dollars.. but in the meantime.. *drool*

everything's in black.. my favorite car color.. yeah the salesman said they only had it for a few days.. i was really suprised that our little Ford dealership managed to get its hands on a GT500

I'm jealous, we have a few in the Tampa area though, seen a couple on the road already, and one near Slidell LA a few months ago.

about 2 weeks ago I was at a large car show and a GT500 drove by me. It was white w/blue stripes. Sounded good too.

Yes with the GT-500 you are paying for a name! You are also paying for one sexy piece of machinery. I would pay 60k in a heartbeat for that car. YA YA the car is a little heavy and it really bothers u there are some option for weight reduction!!!

you all complain about price right! well let me ask you this. If you had the money would you go out and buy a sportscar worth a couple hundred g's that has around the same horsepower? Not me! I mean you can buy a new 2006 FERRARI F430 Coupe for a sticker price of $180,785. But with a curb weight of 3200lbs and only 483 hp, i think u know which one will be bought! GT500 the legacy continues!!!!

I've seen 3 GT500's, all in California. Two on the road and one convertible marked up $30K I think they look awesome and pound for pound, will be the **** on the 1/4 mile track. I follow the guys with GT500's on SVTPerformance.com and with as little as a tune and tires, at least two different folks have run in the 11's. One guy ran 12.7@120 then 11.9@119 on DR's. Other than tires, only mod was a tune. Folks are cracking the 500+rwhp barrier with only a cai and tune as well. That's what's nice about power adder cars from the factory. One guy with a heavy vert, weighs 4200lbs, has run low 11's@126 with gears, tune, tires and drag suspension mods. That's fast in my book for such little mods and a heavy, heavy car. If I were in the market for one though, I certainly wouldn't pay mark-up, that's ridiculous. If I'm going to spend 60-70K, it's C6Z06 for me. But if I could get one for $43-45K, I'd take it in a heart beat. Not to replace my C6 but sit beside it in the garage

mustangs legacy isnt built on some high end shelby...it was built on ground level modders with a base gt engine...so i hate to say it but if ford wants to push a stang into z06 territory its a no brainer which one the people will pick...corvette all the way
ps if i had the money NOTHING would keep me away from a ferrari... remember that daytona from miami vice...350hp, 0-60 in about 5.4 seconds...i'd still trade 3 gt500's for it
see thats were i tend to disagree, dont get me wrong i like a good ferrari! However i LOVE mustangs!!!!!! and i never said anything mustang legacy, i was refering to carroll shelby and the gt 500!

Over here in Forth Worth they had this Ford thing at the Cabelas and people got their names drawn to win a "hot lap" in the GT 500, it was niiiiiice.... they got to sit in the passenger seat while some dude just hauked A$$ around this open parking lot, drifting around cones and just makin a bunch of noise... it was awesome to watch, cant imagine what it was like to be IN it.... they went through three sets of tires

you could take half of your 62,000 dollars and invest it in any V8 car ever produced, and it will smoke the gt500 all night.
dont get me wrong, its a beautiful machine and i love it to death, but you ARE paying for the name. a regualr 05' gt, plus another 15 grand, will put you at the same power level...
also, are you sure its 3200 lbs? because the GT is over 4000. the must have done some serious weight reduction.

No, I tend to think except for the DIe hard mustang fan, your average SPortscar guy will opt Z06.
Plus, I don;t car what you slap on a Mustang, it may beat a Ferrari in the straights, but it will never handle it on the track. Plus it won't be as sexy doing it.
Maybe some of you got the impression I don't like the car, thats not true. I just think for the price they could have done more. Lighten the load a bit. They did a grea tjob on power, upped the suspension handling power, but left it heavier that the GTO that everyone on here picks on for being over weight.
I think they should have made a much better overall car, thats all. Believe me I wouldn't kick one out of my garage.

Nope, I'd find a nice Terminator Cobra in good shape for, what, $25k? I'd then use some of the $40k+ that I would have left over to make sure it is in top condition and throw some mods at it then put the rest in the bank - or buy a nice, fully loaded 4X4 Ranger to go along with the Cobra.
That or I would find a nice '71 Mach 1. I don't think I would go for a 'Vette, etc. They are nice, but I am a sizeable individual and anything more cramped that a Mustang (I was surprised how comfortable I am in mine) would make me miserable, no matter how cool, fast or sexy it is.
