Default 2008 Bullitt News 400hp Naturally Aspirated Engine & more

2008.5 Bullitt Mustang Preliminary Data:
• 4.6L DOHC, 400 horsepower naturally aspirated engine.
• Aluminum block with wet sump oiling system.
• Steel crankshaft.
• Ford GT type cylinder heads.
• Ford GT valve covers with special oil fill adapter on the right valve cover.
• Special exhaust manifolds.
• Special intake manifold with the plenum and throttle body located on the back of the intake, much like the original Bullitt.

According to reliable sources here in Dearborn, there's more to the 2008 Bullitt Mustang's recipe than just a 400 horsepower engine though. Ford is said to be putting resources into the Bullitt for the specific purpose of creating a road-racing Mustang, which will be positioned between the Mustang GT and the Shelby GT500.

wow I guess their goes the heritage edition and I idea behind them………..


Still 400 hp is good wonder if it will keep up with the new camero……..

GM can't get the weight of the Camaro below 4100 lbs, and isn't interested in giving it a stick axle, which would require major differences with the Holden cars.

The Bullitt is based off a GT which weighs 3600 lbs (right? my memory is going . .. ) -even with 100 lbs added for gimmicks, it should be at least 400lbs lighter.

Oh, lighter than the Camaro. Thought you were talking about the GT. I was hoping they would lighten the car some since they have plans on making it a road racer. Oh well, a boy can dream...

Good snag, KS.

I had just copied the link and looked at the screen, and your post popped up.

400hp, all-aluminum engine, steel crank, road-style suspension, racing brakes...

Looks like a 2008.5 winner!

If they can make more than 2000 of them maybe the dealers won't feel obligated to double or triple the price.

The aluminum dohc Bullitt motor should be about the same weight as the iron three valve GT motor (or is it already aluminum - just realized I'm not sure) - might even be a bit lighter. The Bullitt suspension bits might be lighter (depends on materials used), but the brakes, wheels and tires are almost certainly going to be heavier.

Overall, probably pretty close to the weight of a similarly equipped GT - and yes, lighter than a Camaro. With luck, at least the 400 you mention - maybe 450.

yeah, the GT is already aluminum-blocked. The Shelby has the iron block from the truck engine -which is part of the reason it's sooooo danged heavy.

Are you talking about the same engine in the 03, and 04 Cobra? If so, the engine block in the picture is supposed to be aluminum. The blocks in the 03, and 04 Cobra's are cast iron.

updated 4v heads -same as the Mach1 & Cobras -it's not supercharged, so the bottom end is aluminum like the Mach 1 and prior Cobras.

I wonder why Ford couldn't produce 390HP in a naturally aspirated SVT Cobra? Well maybe they could, but I guess it was more inexpensive to put on a supercharger.
