Default How quick can a production car do 0-60

To highlight how quick production cars have gotten lately check this out if you haven't seen it. Imagine a production car that would leave a hayabusa motorcycle in the mirrors within a matter of seconds. 0-60 in 1.6? Crazy stuff. Hype or really possible with a street legal car?

It;s a cool car and I believe it.. but until it lays down then umbers of the Bugatti Veyron, which does 0-60 in the low 2 second range and it weighs over 4000 pounds..it's the champ. Watch the video to see it accelerate to over 253 mph..at which speed it can only go 15 minutes or the tires go..not that it matters though, at that speed it runs out of gas in 12 minutes. lol Hope the video works, it's from Top Gear an dis simply awesome to watch.

ITs all about traction and gear changes. I wonder if the car revs enough to get to 60mph in first gear. If not I would find it hard to believe that its possibly under 2 seconds if its a manually shifted.

Otherwise, sure... given traction, power, gearing, and weight.

I don't see how you can really call a 500 unit run over 3 years a Production car, but I guess if its available to the public....

would you count a bugatti veryon as a production car? if so, then i seem to remember the time was 2.8 seconds?

was gonna say the same thing...its not exactly your average production car is it? bugatti still reigns in my book...i wont be thrilled about a "production" car being able to do 0-60 in under 2 seconds until its a workin mans production car... like a vette

Default One cool video

That was a eye opening video. I really thought it was interesting how the tires could only last minutes at those speeds. I remember years ago when a sub 5 second 0-60 meant supercar. This redefines the term supercar. I'll bet the owners allow for a large tire budget.

I agree with the 0-60 n first gear thing...

Part of what makes the Ford GT as fast as it is, is that you don't shift out of first until after 60 mph.

Yeah, I think the pricetag is a million - maybe two mil. Also, from what I have read, you have to get Bugatti techs to come out and turn the speed limiters off so you can hit top speed (if I'm not mistaken, the article I read said they also bring special tires, but that's been a while back, so I could be wrong) - I think they keep it street legal with the limiters.

I don't think the Bugatti is counted as the world's fastest production car because I don't think the production numbers are high enough. I do believe it is considered the world's fastest street legal automobile.
