I just subscribed to one of those online credit monitoring things and looked at my credit reports from all 3 bureaus, Experian, TransUnion & Equifax. I guess I should have done this several years ago, because there are A LOT, specifically 9 items, that I dispute completely. These 9 items have caused my credit score to drop to a disturbing level.
Does anyone know how to get this stuff removed? I've done the letter writing and the online disputes to the bureaus, but I've been told it can take 30 - 45 days for a response.
I really need help on this stuff.....
If you're not comfortable leaving a post, then PM me, I'll get back to you a soon as I can.
As far as I know, you have started off right, you also can try calling the agencies, and the creditors you supposedly owe money to. From what I know, it can take quite a while to get those types of things straightened out...

Write the dispute letters, send them certified mail with a delivery receipt. In Texas it is 30 days so adjust the time for your state. Once the time is up, send another letter to the credit bureau with a CC: to your states AG.

Thanks in advance for all your help!!!!!!
You already disputed the credit report entries and yes, 30 to 45 days is how long it takes. Not knowing specific details or your situation and advice being cheap and frequently incorrect what I would do is turn to some good resources both private and government. Some private sources are www.budhibbs.com for information. Or www.naca to locate a National Association of Consumer Advocates lawyer. You also have a resource in your Texas Secretary of State for info and your Texas Attorney General if a complaint needs to be lodged for illegal debt collection practces. Likewise complaints can be filed with the state AG where the colelction agency is located.
Texas, has some very consumer friendly protections if the debt was incured in the state of Texas. There are statute of limitations as to when third-parties can bring civil suit, how long they can attempt to collect which is well after the SOL is up, and how long adverse credit report entries remain on reports. Often, thrid-party collectors "re-age" written off accounts to reset the SOL. ALso third-party collectors are notorious for taking your money and not updating your credit reports. Again, more reason to consult a lawyer experienced in consumer rights/law.
It's probably not what you wanted to hear but if this situation is going on this long and there is no end in sight you might want to get some experienced assistance to help you out.
I hate collection agencies! I have good credit, and they still intrude on my life.
I had one calling at all hours, so I finally answered, and they were looking for the guy across the hall. Unfortunately, I'd been up all night, and didn't have the mental wherewithall to screw with them, or even cuss 'em out. Didn't rat the neighbor out, to them though - and I hate him.
At my night job, I have to ask people to write their drivers license numbers on their checks, to appease our collection agency.
I did manage to screw one over though. A pothead coworker at my night job, applied for a job with one, and needed to pass a drug test. I gave him a bottle of my whiz, and he used it for the test, and was hired!
Dave Ramsey taught me to hate collection agencies.

You've started out correctly, write the letters and send them in. Also call the creditors and see if you can get them to do something about it over the phone. Check your credit score again in 60-90 days. There should be some action on these by then. Correcting a credit report takes time. It took 7 years to get mine all straightened out over a matter of $100 to a Amoco gas card I had when I was 20 years old.

I bought a Suzuki MC in 2002 and was making the necessary monthly payments until I sold it in summer 04. At that same time the Suzuki accts. were bought by HouseHold Bank and my account was supposed to transfer. I got the title and signed it over and received a letter stating the debt was satisfied by Suzuki, but on 2 of the 3 bureaus, it states all my payments were late. The kicker is 1 of them show me as making them on time. Well all 3 of them say that the thing was charged off. I don't know where the letter is and I have put in a request for title history to prove that the debt was satisfied, B/C you can't get the title if you still owe $$$. This is some BULLS**T.... HSBC says they can't help me B/C the debt was reported by Suzuki and they are not responsible for the reporting and there is no # I can find to contact Suzuki.
If anyone knows a good attorney I can call please PM me or post the name and #. I'm getting tired of this one-sided "guilty until proven innocent" credit reporting.

I may not have provided a complete link in my previous post, but if you go to www.naca.net you should be able to locate a consumer attorney in your area.
That's nothing, try being 21 and never having bought a damn thing on credit before then go shopping for your first late-model vehicle. Without a co-signer? no interest rates below 25%... and every car dealership said the same thing, go get a department-store credit card and keep it current for 6 months... tried that... nobody would give one because of "no credit history"... After three failed attempts to get a store credit card I just went with a co-signer to get a truck. I've made every payment early, even made an extra straight-to-principal payment, and guess what? Still can't get any other credit.

It takes a couple of years to build up a credit history good enough to be approved for a car loan at a decent rate. The best way to start is a store credit card, then a SMALL personal loan from a bank. Take care of both of those and your score will go up swiftly.

Have you tried getting a gas station credit card? that is how I started.

I got a call out to 2 attorneys, both of which I got from www.NACA.net. I went with offices that had EXPERIENCED as their work on incorrect credit reporting.

A really good way to build a credit score is taking out a SECURED loan from your bank or credit union.
