I just dropped off my 86 mustang for a maaco urethane single stage paint job. I decided to go with Sonic Blue....which is a really popular ford color. They charged me 1000 bucks out the door which includes the 500 dollar paint job, sanding/sealing, and some bondo work.
the problem is, im a college kid and i couldnt really afford the 3000 job from a reputable shop. i know maaco's reputation, but i saw some of their work in the parking lot and it didnt look bad. i was just looking for something better than the primer it was before. i wanna know if anyone has had any experinece with that high-end single stage paint job from maaco and how it turned out looking. i pick up the car this friday and im really biting my nails....
maaco is famous for the quick fix....i had them paint an entire car a diff color and it didnt come out bad...actually it was pretty cool...just remember it isnt gonna be a show car...but when you see it youre gonna say "wow...this looks awesome" just dont park it next to a ferrari
you dont need painter. it doesnt matter what the tool looks like, as long as it kills ricers its fine lol

somebody tell me that everything is gonna be ok!
I had a 91 LX painted there a while back. You will be happy with it if the vehicle is in primer now. The paint does have a tendency to fade rather quickly. So use a good wax often.

Back in college my sister had them repaint the hatch and rear bumper of her 90 LX 4cyl. Hers was blue.
They did a decent job matching. There was some orange peel, and they left a bit to be desired on the prep work. Little dents and stuff they could have done a better job on.
Bottom line: It was all one color, it did repair the damage the egg did (thats why she needed it touched up) and it satisfied her. Like was stated in another post here, don't expect a show paint job. It will be presentable though.

I had our daily driver (92 Olds) totally repainted at Maaco, it was silver and had it repainted the same color single stage, with minor body work. Total was 600 something, and was really impressed with it. Looks so much better the it was when I brought it in. The old paint was just warn out and peeling.
I like the single stage, for easy maintenance of hiding scratches.
A regular shop wanted between 3 to 4k, and just was not worth doing a '92 for that much.
You will like it and they provide a decent warntee..

I had my beloved old '82 GT painted there, back in '96. They did a fairly decent job, though they painted the door handles, and painted the tailpipes black - I scraped the black paint off. I found evidence that they'd searched through my console.
I had my Cougar painted at the same location, in '98. They did an OK job on it, but there were a few questionable spots. They also somehow killed my battery, and had to give me a jumpstart to get it out of there. At that point, I just wanted my car out of their hands, and didn't balk at the questionable spots.
Both cars are in my gallery.
I guess I'd recommend them for a car that's just a driver.

I had them paint my black Ranger. It's worth the money. Actually, a city is lucky to have a place that is moderate like them. I'd hate to go to a dealer for paint, unless you also needed parts that would be harder for Maaco to get. The dealer might have those parts on the shelf waiting.
I am crossing my fingers for you that all will be okay. My experience with Maaco is not good. If you are changing the color of your car, it will be obvious...like check the door jams, the underneath side of hood, trunk, etc, and look for obvious overspray. My experience with Maacor proved they just painted over the old paint with minimal prep work.
With that said, I do know people who swear by Maaco...so I will be optomistic and assume they have gotton better sinc emy expereince with many years ago. Good luck my firend, do post a pic when done.

Yep, they will not do the door jams, under hood, trunk etc. (extra charge for that) ........ just the exterior is done in the price. I was going to change the color, but decided to keep it the same for those reasons. 600.00 vs 3500.00 for a daily runner to look good is a great deal, and they had it done in 2 1/2 days.

Did you get it back? What is the verdict? How does it look?

yes I got it back, it was done some 3 or 4 months ago and makes a big impovement then looking at the paling paint.
It looks great for the price. It is not a 100% perfect job, but for 600.00 you cannot beat it for a better appearance.
Besides like I said, it is a 92 Olds, with only 44k on it so i did not just want it to loose its old flaking paint and start rusting. Plenty of life in it with only 44k and has no rust. I also had them do the black mirrors the same oriional car color.

well here it is....its not that bad. i will have to wet sand it and give it a good buff, but its better than i thought. they charged me a grand because it needed a little body work that i couldnt do.
but i figure once the windows are tinted and the trim is painted it wont look half bad!
