I've only seen a few of them, tried to buy one when I was younger, and had the world on a string. Most of 'em that I've seen are two toned grey and white with the white turning dark gray towards the flanks. THe horses have a white spot pattern, that reminds you of stardust.
I've seen a few taupe/brown appaloosas, covered from head to toe with spots, but those have been mainly in the north.

I stand corrected, according to these renderings, Hildalgo was a Pintaloosa, or Paintaloosa.
