The 946 richest people on the planet all have one thing in common:
They're worth at least a Billion dollars.
1. Bill Gates. Founder and CEO of Microsoft. $56 billion. Down considerably from about twice that much back before the dot.com bust, he's still #1.
2. Warren Bufet. Founder and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. $52 billion. Since he's given away more money than Bill is worth over the years, he COULD be worth about 4 times as much, but after the first 40 billion, its all gravy, right?
3. Carlos Slim Helu. CEO of the Phone Company in Mexico. $49 billion. His wealth grew a staggering $19 billion dollars in just one year. If he has another good year, he'll be the richest man on the planet. Those wire transfers must be an incredible income source for a telecommunications monopoly. Odd vision - the highest income on the planet going to a man in a country that just spent a week begging us for financial aid, jobs, and more open borders. Coincidence... or is Carlos planning to be #1 next year?
4. Ingvar Kamprad. Sweden. CEO and founder of IKEA. $33 billion. Born poor, worked his way up in the business.
5. Lakshmi Mittal. India. CEO of steel company that produces 10% of the planets steel.
6. Sheldon Adelson. US. Gambling and Casinos in US and China. $26.5 billion.
7. Bernard Arnault. France. LMVH Brands CEO. $26 billion. Louis Vitton, etc. Lots of factories in China, India and Russia.
8. Armancio Ortega. Spain. CEO of Inditex. $24 billion.
More later. The top 20 folks have net worths of over half a TRILLION dollars, and those who think that only American CEO's earn big paydays will be surprised to learn that the Asians and Europeans do too.
More later.

No person has the right to hoarde all that money to themself.
The gov't needs to take some of their money and give it to those people that deserve it. You know, the people who work hard for a living... People that don't have the same opportunities in life and have to scrape by working at Wal Mart and such for a paltry $9.00 an hour.
It's not their fault that they were not given the chances to earn high wages, it's the rich people's fault.
Wait a minute...
I USED to work at Wal-Mart...
Hey, wait... I actually learned a trade by...joining the Military???
That can't happen!! How did I get this job?? The gov't didn't just hand it to me???
Now I'm confused....
I had to actually LEARN something that was difficult to make money???
Egads!!!! This is not right! Tax the rich, give ME their money!
Yay!

That's just depressing. Here I am working my tail off just to make ends meet and if there is anything left over it goes to my stang.
Can someone re-shuffle the deck and deal me another hand?
(NOTE: Mittal is worth $32 billion, for those who noticed I left it out. Its GOOD to be a rich industrialist in a smokestack industry in a country that conveniently is on the RECEIVING end of the Kyoto Accord goodies!)
9. Li Ka-shing (no, I didn't make that name up, and now it has nothing to with the movie "Cars"). $23 billion. Hong Kong. Moved most of his money to Canada (Husky Energy - I wonder if he's involved in all the nasty environmental problems involving nickel processing?) back when it looked like the communists might take it. Still keeps the bulk out of China. Smart dude.
10. David Thomson, $22 billion. Canada. Inherited his wealth. CEO of Thomson Corp.
11. Larry Ellison, $21.5 billion. U.S. CEO of Oracle. Used to be worth a LOT more.
12. Liliane Bettencourt, $20.7 billion. France. Inherited her wealth. Based on company L'Oreal.
13. Prince Alwaleed, $20.3 billion. Saudi Arabia.
14. Mukesh Ambani, $20.1 billion. India. Reliance Industries (with younger brother Anil, worth a mere $18.2 billion himself - see below).
15. Karl Albrecht, $20 billion. Germany. Aldi Corp. (with younger brother Theo, worth a mere $17.5 billion)
16. Roman Abramovich, $18.7 billion. Russia. Oil and Steel.
17. Stefan Persson, $18.4 billion. Sweden. Hennes and Mauritz Inc.
18. Anil Ambani, 18.2 billion. India. Rich family.
19. Paul Allen, $18 billion. U.S. Co-founder of Microsoft.
20. Theo Albrecht, $17.5 billion. Germany. Rich family.
That ends the top 20. Among them they are worth $547 billion dollars.
5 are Americans, 1 is Mexican, 3 are Indian, 3 are Swedes, 2 are French, 1 is Canadian, 1 is Spanish, 1 is Chinese, 1 is a Saudi, 1 is Russian, and 2 are Germans.
More later.

Yuo know what... just give me a Billion and I would never have to work again, I would never complain about money, and I would live a modest life with just a few extravagances...what in the world do you do with $50/billion. The daily interest if you just let it sit in the bank is probably in the top 10% income level in the US.

I'm a few decimal points ahead of PCfrisch (I sold out before the dot.com bust - if Bill had listened to me, he'd be worth $150billion today).
I thought a lot of Gate's big wealth reduction from $90-odd billion dollars was in the form of the 30 billion dollar endowment of the Bill and Melinda Gate's Foundation. Number 2 Buffet has conditionally pledged a $31 billion matching grant to the foundation, so in 5-10 years he may well be off the list completely.

Yep. That was part of it. He didn't listen to me then, and he rode Microsoft stock almost into the ground.
He doesn't return my emails, either.
I wonder what I did to make him mad?

Gates and Warren Buffet may be rich but they pale in comparison to men like JP Morgan and Rockerfeller and others of the "Guilded Age". Those men payed no income or other taxes since there were none. Gates and all these others are only rich on paper. If Gates tried to turn his assets into cash the stock market would go nuts! Rockerfeller and the others of that age had cash and gold at their disposal. That type of wealth will never be seen in the US again.

I'm sure we all heard about that old fart who one the power lottery, after taxes he got something like $113 million. He blew it all in just a few years on a lot of BS....so the story goes. I tell you what, if I had 113 million after taxes, my great, great, great grandchildern would never have to worry about money. Seeing how my aunt lives off the 4.5 million she got from her dead husband, it wouldn't take much out of that money to live well and invest the rest.
